Title: TRANSPOSING INSTRUMENTS
Post by: Daniel Cox on 1999-12-10 05:00 AM
I am currently orchestrating a musical wirtten by a friend, and wish to use Noteworthy. Does anyone have a list of instruments and how many semitones to transpose them with eg:
Eb BARITONE SAX (+21) FROM C

in particular:
fl, ob, clt, tpt, trom, b. guit, guit, vln, cello, viola, percussion and drums.

thanx

Most of them will be found in "Compass.nwc", a compendium of instrument compasses and transpositions available at the NWC Scriptorium (http://nwc-scriptorium.org/).

Click on the "Other Useful Files" link. Also check out the "Brasband.txt" file which gives more info on brass instruments.

If memory serves, guitar and bass weren't included; fortunately, these are very easy. Guitar - written in treble clef, sounds one octave lower than written. Bass (electric or acoustic) - written in bass clef, sound one octave lower than written.

You may also refer to http://www.nifty.ne.jp/forum/fmidicla/htmls/ichou.html which is the table of transpositions I use most of the time.
