The bar numbering dialogue seems to have disappeared in version 1.31a. Does anybody know where it is ( or am I just being stupid?)
No you're not being stupid. It wasn't really well advertised that the bar number facility has been moved to the page setup dialog. This sort of makes, sense, though I wish there was a shortcut to it from the print preview dialog!

Can you explain me the methodology for attributing bar code numbers? How do they process?
bar code ? in music ?? what kind of ?
Not bar codes as in UPC, but rather "bar number" indications as in "which bar are we on"?
Noteworthy Composer allows you to turn this feature on or off, in the edit view all bars are numbered, and in the printed score only the first bar of every line is numbered.
