General Discussion / Re: NWC lyrics in Hebrew?
I would take this from Wikipedia:
Quote
Hava nagila
Hava nagila
Hava nagila venis'mecha
(repeat stanza once)
Hava neranenah
Hava neranenah
Hava neranenah venis'mecha
(repeat stanza once)
Uru, uru achim!
Uru achim b'lev sameach
(repeat line three times)
Uru achim, uru achim!
B'lev sameach
All consonants are pronounced as expected, except for ch, which is German ch (IPA /x/)
a-a as in father
e-e as in wet
i-ee
o-oh
u-oo

General Discussion / Re: percussion notation
To expand on Rick's response, you would use o for a roll in -Dings and Boxmarks.

If User1 is -Dings, this is what I'd use-just copy, paste, and Ctrl-Shift-↕ to move it:
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Text|Text:"o"|Font:User2|Pos:-3|Justify:Right|Placement:AtNextNote
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:4
|Text|Text:"o"|Font:User2|Pos:-3|Placement:AtNextNote
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:-4
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End

General Discussion / Re: Possible?
Most definitely possible.  You might want to add Title/Composer/Copyright information through Ctrl-i.

I think you should submit this to the scriptorium, along with the original.
If the original is for SATB, you should add this to the SATB score.

General Discussion / Re: Display Bug During Playback
It does matter which staff is active.  This shows when either the staff with hidden notes is active, or a third staff is active.

Attached is a screenshot, and an excerpt.  Try playing it back, and watch the noteheads magically change color.  The second staff MUST be active.

General Discussion / Display Bug During Playback
I have two staves which are layered.  In one, everything is set to Visibility:Never.  In the other, which is on top of it when not layered, it has the exact same notes in one measure.  When I select a staff that is neither of those, it displays the notes in common as hidden.  When I play back, after each note that is on both staves, it shows it as if it's not hidden.  When playback ends, they show as hidden again.

Tips & Tricks / [NWC2] How to cleanly extend the last system.
In the NWC2 page setup box, there is a checkbox for "Extend Last System".  That, however, simply adds a large amount of space to the end of the piece instead of stretching the last system.  These instructions will show you how to extend the last system by stretching it.

1. In "Staff Properties", go to the "General" tab.  Under "Ending Bar", choose "Open (Hidden)"

2. At the end of the first staff, go to Insert-Decorated Bar Line, or b.  Choose whichever type of barline you like, and select "Force System Break" (Top Staff Only)
Or, you can use:
Code: [Select · Download]
|Bar|Style:SectionClose|XBarCnt:N|SysBreak:Y|Color:0|Visibility:Default

There will be no line after, and the last line will be stretched.

General Discussion / Re: .nwc to .sib, .xml, .abc, .mus ...etc???
I keep hoping that one day the software engineers at Sibelius and Finale will turn to Noteworthy as a "neutral language" on which to base a standardized music notation format.  Just as all Word Processors can "Save As" and open RTF files, the industry desperately needs an alternative to MIDI as the "Lingua Franca" among the various polarized communities.  Just standardizing articulation including "bowings" (strings) and tempo/dynamic variances would go a long way towards keeping the peace in many a university's Music Dept.

Omar

The software engineers at Sibelius and Finale have turned to MusicXML as a neutral language.  Sibelius will only import MusicXML, and Finale (only actual $600 Finale) will read and write MusicXML.  There is a lot of other software that works with MusicXML, too. As stated in my previous post, there is a converter from NWC1.75 to MusicXML, and there is now a converter from NWC2 to NWC1.75.

General Discussion / Re: Beta 2.12 Note/GraceNote Chord anomaly
I'd call the first example a bug, and the second example an exploitation of the bug.
Look at the this:
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Chord|Dur:16th|Pos:1,3|Opts:Stem=Up,Beam=First,Muted|Dur2:8th,Grace|Pos2:-6
|Chord|Dur:16th|Pos:1,3|Opts:Stem=Up,Beam=End,Muted|Dur2:8th,Grace|Pos2:-6
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End

If you load in the second example, and change the value of the notes with the tool bar to a type with flags, you end up with essentially the same.
Is this a bug?  I'd say so.  Could this be turned into a feature as Rick demonstrated?  With some enhancements, yes.

General Discussion / Re: Playback in different octaves
You can also have an octave-up clef, created by creating a clef, going to item properties for it, then choosing "octave up" for "octave shift".  You can also choose "octave down".

General Discussion / Re: possible bug
The vertical position of the dot keeps the dot with the 8th note.  It could be an annoyance.

See the attached file.

Tips & Tricks / Subtitles
For those of you who want to add subtitles at the proper height...
  • From the default top staff (upper/lower vertical size is 12), the Staff Position of the Author, Lyricist line is almost exactly 21.  If you have the same text below it, it will create a slight [shadow=black, right]shadow effect[/shadow].
  • To go down an additional row, subtract 5 (approximately) from the staff position.  (This measurement was created with Staff Italic.  This will vary depending on which font you use.)

General Discussion / Re: NWC2 on Linux/Wine
Good.  This means that if bersyl91 says it works fine, I might actually be able to switch to Linux if I wanted to.  This would also open up NWC2 to the Mac OS X crowd.

Now, if only we could go through a Wizard like the NWC2 Enrollment Wizard to download an installer package... ;-)

General Discussion / Re: Rehearsal numbers
If you want to force a line-break in NWC2, use:
Code: [Select · Download]
|Bar|SysBreak:Y
Put the Rehearsal Number right after it, and a note before it like so:
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:0
|Bar|SysBreak:Y
|Text|Text:"A"|Font:User2|Pos:6
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End
(I have Lawrie Pardy's MusikDingsSerif as User2, but you can also use Lawrie Pardy's MusikDingsSans, Swingdings, Barry Graham's BoxMarks, or Marsu's BoxMark2)

General Discussion / Re: Why treat the Notation font differently from say, User 1 or Staff Bold?
I can't think of anything NWC2 uses Staff Italic for that I would want to see as roman.

Staff Italic, which is Times New Roman by default, is used for Tempo Variations such as accelerando.  There are circumstances in which those markings are not italic.

On the other hand, are there any circumstances when
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Clef|Type:Treble
|TimeSig|Signature:Common
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:-6
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:-4
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:-2
|Rest|Dur:4th
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End
should show up as:
Code: [Select · Download]
a d k k k n

General Discussion / Re: NWC2 on Linux/Wine
I'm not sure about how emf files are created.  If an emf file actually uses the font, that's a completely different matter then if it's just like a jpeg.

If emf is just a bunch of pixels like a jpeg, of course it would render correctly.  You say that it has problems when given ANSI strings, which are far from a bitmap.

What happens if you create an emf file in Ubuntu and view it in Windows XP?

General Discussion / Re: Hello there!
In NWC2 you can also highlight a range of notes and select "<" or ">" to add a functional "hairpin".  Note that you MUST have dynamic markings for the variances to work, and they do not work on sustained notes - there are other techniques around this.
NWC2 also has many other advantages.  For instance, X, Diamond, and Invisible noteheads are available.

I recommend that you download some of Lawrie Pardy's fonts.

General Discussion / Re: Rehearsal numbers
Yes.  To do it go to File/Page Setup/Options and there will be an option for "Measure Numbers".  These will only appear at the beginning of a line.

General Discussion / Re: Spacing bugs (Beta 2.10)
I agree with Rick's first comment.

Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:0
|Bar|Visibility:Never
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:0
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End
Try to select the invisible bar line with the mouse.

General Discussion / Re: printing
How can you save the file as a word document?  Do you mean copy from Print Preview and Paste into Word page by page?

General Discussion / Re: Proportional spacing for Printable
Are you saying that you see no difference in your version on NWC?
If you're saying that the triplets are uneven, I agree.  If you're saying the barred 8th and 16th notes aren't proportional, I disagree.
195
General Discussion / Re: Proportional spacing for Printable
You're right...I was trying it in comparison with a string of 16th notes on another staff, which forces proportional spacing.  That if there is a plain string of notes on another staff will force proportional spacing truly exposes a problem in NWC2.

See attached example, and in the second staff, delete all notes and watch what happens.

General Discussion / Re: One note shown - another one is sounding
You can, but not directly.
The way I would do it would be to apply transposition.
For instance, take the following Instrument Patch:
Code: [Select · Download]
|Instrument|Trans:-2
That will make a "B" sound like an "A".
Then, of course, once you're done, you have to put
Code: [Select · Download]
|Instrument|Trans:0
to have it go back to playing the way it looks.

Tips & Tricks / Re: Swing Tempo
For NWC1, making notes smaller requires work-arounds.  If I had to make notes smaller, I'd make an invisible note, then mount a grace note to the invisible note on a separate staff, then layer the staves.  However, this will result in incorrect positioning.

In NWC2, you would use a note w/o notehead, and a reduced stem size, then attach a small note head from the NWC2STDA User Font.

See attached examples to see how they'd look.

General Discussion / Re: Connect MIDI to USB
<snip> M-AUDIO USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface <snip>
That's what I have...it's sort of tricky to install.  Here are some tips:
  • Install the driver (from the CD or from http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers) before connecting the adapter to the computer.
  • If the "found new hardware" wizard comes up more then once, go through the wizard both times.
  • To set it up with NWC, go to Tools-Options-Midi for playback and Tools-Options-Record for input.
