General Discussion / Re: outside opinion
Wanting to punish percussionists (we're used to it, don't worry) is one thing, but having a part that's virtually unplayable is another!

General Discussion / Re: outside opinion
I liked the original name-Canon Rip-Off.  ;-)
Also, you should probably label the percussion instruments.  If I were you, I would make a "sight-only" percussion part that would be displayed, and hide the one that you currently have.
Here's some reference:

General Discussion / Re: outside opinion
You may want to put the instrument names in.  Also, you may want to add information, such as who wrote the piece (I should hope you!) and such.
The first 3 notes do sound like Pachelbel's canon.  :-)  The rest doesn't.
Although the Right Hand part is probably just as boring as the cello part in Pachelbel's canon.  :-)

General Discussion / Re: V 2.17 Beta Observation: Key Changes
I still think that, by how you say "I'd like to have the ability to change the key at any point in the staff," that means that you are misusing NWC's staff/system management.
What should happen is that the key would be changed at a point in the staff and reflected in the same staff in subsequent systems.
As Lawrie said, it is most likely that you are "creating new staves for each 'line' of your music", otherwise this wouldn't be necessary.
To have a staff continue onto another line, do not create a new staff, but just allow it to extend horizontally.  A new staff is for a new instrument.  To see how it looks when printed out, simply go to "print preview".  Look at any piece in the sample directory for an example.  (The simpler ones are better if you're just trying to see this, try NOWELL.nwc.)

General Discussion / Re: V 2.17 Beta Observation: Key Changes
That is most likely the case.  As I've noted before, almost every user (including myself, when I started using NWC) has had trouble with this.  But once you get used to it, anything else (Finale or Sibelius) drives you crazy.
If you're having trouble grasping what Lawrie's saying, try downloading a file from the Scriptorium.

General Discussion / Re: I Need Some Help With Transcription
George Crumb's "Ancient Voices of Children" is quite thin, but it's too big to fit on a normal music stand!
In that score, my favorite piece is "De donde vienes, amor, mi nino?", which does have a circle like that.  The whole piece also has a very nice percussion section including Tibetian prayer stones, and the pianist gets to play not only an amplified piano, but also a toy piano.
Somewhere in the piece, the pianist puts the petal down as the singer sings into the piano.
Still, they're a lot easier than these.
And if you look at early George Crumb, such as "Three Early Songs", you'll find that it's just a piano/vocal part.
And then there are scores for piano roll.

Version 1.75 Discussion / Re: labeling "right hand" and "left hand" simply as "piano"
Also, in orchestral or band scores it is common for two instruments of the same type to share a grand staff.  For instance, typically the 2 clarinet parts share a grand staff within their orchestral brace. (Which should be divided by the section, but that's a whole other topic that we don't need to get into here.)

General Discussion / Sticking Options
Whenever I put in a note that has some option (e.g. accidental, grace note, etc.) attached to it, this option continues to be selected until manually disabled.  This problem also continues into other staves, or even other pieces.

General Discussion / Re: Visibility
You can also put voices in the second staff by making chords out of notes with different values, for instance:
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Chord|Dur:4th,Dotted|Pos:b-4|Opts:Stem=Up|Dur2:Half|Pos2:b-5
|Note|Dur:8th|Pos:b-5|Opts:Stem=Up
|Chord|Dur:Half|Pos:-5|Opts:Stem=Down|Dur2:Half,Dotted|Pos2:-4
|Note|Dur:4th,Slur|Pos:b3|Opts:Stem=Down
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End

Version 1.75 Discussion / Re: labeling "right hand" and "left hand" simply as "piano"
If you want to have a direct method of properly labeling both of the piano staffs as "piano", you can use NoteWorthy Composer 2, mark the top staff's label as "Piano", and give the bottom staff an empty label.

About the inconsistency in bar line width, I believe this is an artifact created by errors in zooming.  I recommend that you zoom in farther.

Lawrie is correct about the work-around for the 8va.  He would know more about his fonts than I would.  <Image Link>

General Discussion / Re: NWC to Finale
Finale Notepad uses it's own format only.  It is not possible to convert without going through a paid version of Finale the way Rick described.

General Discussion / Re: Lyric bug?
This is in the NWC2 form, you should be able to do a Ctrl-C from the program and paste it directly onto the forum.  It would also be nice to see the surrounding measures and the lyrics (pasted separately), as it may be in lyric text processing.
124
General Discussion / Re: Lyric bug?
What I mean is that the notes in question may have certain properties that would make them not display a lyric syllable.  So we can see these, I'd like a copy to be posted.  (At least the offending bars.)

General Discussion / Re: Beta 2.17 Dot Positioning Bug in 2nd-Chord
It is quite possible that it is correct.  However, it is extremely likely to confuse the players.
Oh, and Lawrie, what I mean by it is that the dot for the 4th note appears to be for the half note.  This could be the correct behavior, though, as Keith says.
126
General Discussion / Beta 2.17 Dot Positioning Bug in 2nd-Chord
In a piece I am working on, I am utilizing chords based of of 2nds a lot.  In one where the two notes have different dynamic values (one is a dotted 4th, the other is a half), the dot for the dotted 4th note is placed across the half note.

Here is the offending chord:
Code: [Select · Download]
|Chord|Dur:4th,Dotted|Pos:b-4o|Opts:Stem=Up|Dur2:Half|Pos2:b-5o|Color:0|Visibility:Default

General Discussion / Re: Lyric bug?
Although I understand your problem, the given information is not sufficient.  Can you please post it here?

General Discussion / Re: Noteworthy Software en español?
I know a tiny bit of Spanish, so I guess I can try...

Sé que mi español es muy mal.  No hablo mucho.

Translation for other users:
I know that my Spanish is very bad.  I don't speak much of it.
From what I know, there isn't a translation of NWC to Spanish.  I think that you would be able to use NWC better if this would be in Spanish.  But because you have an account here and you can use NWC, you would no English, no?
Also, as Robden Heijer says, we can't use WAV of real instruments.  But there are "Soundfonts", which are musical sounds.  But if you want your music to sound very good, use real instruments!

General Discussion / Re: Non right-justification of all systems on a worksheet
What I meant was that it might affect other files with highlighting.  However, after spending the last few hours trying to post-process (and wasting half my page file usage in the process when M$ Paint refused to close), I think your suggestion would be easier.  So, thank you.

Update:  I finished changing everything on the worksheet, and it worked quite well.  (I had to do a bit of debugging with extending it, though.)  So, thank you very much.

General Discussion / Re: Non right-justification of all systems on a worksheet
Well, these ideas do work, but they're quite awkward and could interfere with other files.  However, the "digital white-out idea" (Is that how you got the empty staff before the coda in your example file for ...Dings?) could damage other files.  I think that the best thing to do would be to do the digital white-out, except not do the white-out in NWC, and do some post-processing.

After all, I'll have to put some text on the side anyways.

Thank you.

General Discussion / Re: Non right-justification of all systems on a worksheet
This isn't the full file, but it's enough to get the point across:
Staff 1:
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Clef|Type:Treble
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:-3
|Note|Dur:8th,Slur|Pos:1|Opts:Stem=Down,Beam=First
|Note|Dur:8th|Pos:0|Opts:Stem=Down,Beam=End
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End
Staff 2:
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Clef|Type:Treble
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:-2
|Note|Dur:8th,Slur|Pos:-2|Opts:Stem=Up,Beam=First
|Note|Dur:8th|Pos:-3|Opts:Stem=Up,Beam=End
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:-3
|Note|Dur:4th,Slur|Pos:-3
|Note|Dur:8th,Slur|Pos:-4|Opts:Stem=Up,Beam=First
|Note|Dur:8th|Pos:-5|Opts:Stem=Up,Beam=End
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End
Go to print preview, and see the ending bars.  They should not be aligned.

I guess if worse comes to worse, a few workarounds and some post-processing would probably do the trick too.

General Discussion / Re: Non right-justification of all systems on a worksheet
I don't mind staff-connection and note-alignment.  However, in Page Setup, Extend Last System is not set.

Forgive my crude drawing:
Code: [Select · Download]
________
|'||   |
| ""|| |
|______|

That's supposed to be a drawing of my page.  With extend last system, every staff is extended to the right margin of the page.  The alignment of them all cannot be stopped.

Note: It looks right in the editor.
133
General Discussion / Non right-justification of all systems on a worksheet
I am working on a worksheet for something.  Each staff has a few notes, not many, and the amount greatly differs per line, from 3 to 15.  When I go to Print Preview, however, regardless of how many notes there are, the ending bar lines are always aligned.  Is there a way to prevent this?

General Discussion / Re: chord members
If you are asking how to just insert a member of a chord, press Ctrl-enter instead of enter.  This can be done with any notehead.
Symbols would probably be inserted through text, with one of Lawrie Pardy's ...Dings fonts.

General Discussion / Beaming in Multiple-Duration Chords
A piece that I'm currently working on has this figure repeated:
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Chord|Dur:16th|Pos:n1|Opts:Stem=Up,Beam=First|Dur2:8th|Pos2:-5,-2
|Note|Dur:16th|Pos:#1|Opts:Stem=Up,Beam=End
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End
If I beam it, the 16th notes at the top are beamed, and the 8th notes are unbeamed.  I'm not sure if this is musically correct or if this is a bug.

User Tools / Re: User Tools and the Registry
I do support these ideas, though they would cause incompatibilities with the current system, perhaps if there was something in the script saying if it was "old" or "new".
And if only the starter kit came with something other than PHP... (sigh)

General Discussion / Re: wish list - radio buttons
Although I don't work at NWC, I would infer from what I know that NWC is written in a medium-level language.  In this type, it would most likely be quite difficult to change something that trivial.
About whether or not they should be used, there are many users that automatically use the drop-down menus.  Having radio buttons would slow these people down.
I'm expecting many people to start a lengthy debate.

General Discussion / Re: Partial Layering
I've seen staves been temporarily hidden, particularly in orchestral scores.  I've only seen this in professional engravings, as typically non-professional engravings (such as someone printing their score straight from Finale) have all staves on every page.  I have my copy of The Planets in front of me, and on the first page it shows every staff, but on some pages farther in, not all staves are shown, so I understand what Bananov is asking.  However, it is probably very difficult to implement.  (Not even Finale has it!)  I've never seen two staves being temporarily layered, though.
146
General Discussion / Re: NWC Viewer limitation
I completely agree with Fitzclan.  However, a profit could be made if this enhanced viewer came included with a registered NWC with a license that grants permission to distribute it to anyone you wish to distribute it ∞ times, not sell for profit...
This way, NWC would still get profit.  To modify Fitzclan's quote, the person would be getting the milk from the person who bought the whole cow.  :-)

General Discussion / Re: New at this - Inserting Choruses?
About every new user of NWC finds this problem of one long staff.  Eventually they figure it out.
NWC is not WYSIWYG.  Every piece is one long staff in the editor.  Most NWC users prefer this to WYSIWYG.  To see what will actually get printed, go to File-Print Preview.
Eventually, it just becomes what NWC users automatically do.

I'm not sure what I would do for the second one, nor am I sure how I would notate it in the first place.  Sorry about not helping there.
148
General Discussion / Re: Various suggestions
  • I'm sure there are workarounds for beaming across bar lines.  I made a hack using two layered staves, which is attached.
  • You can insert the Tenor clef through Insert-Clef-Tenor.
    Here's an example:
Code: [Select · Download]
|Clef|Type:Tenor|OctaveShift:None|Color:0|Visibility:Default
    [/li]
  • There are probably workarounds for tying enharmonic notes.
  • Your squiggly for arpeggios, the image is available in any -Dings fonts by Lawrie Pardy, available at http://nwc-scriptorium.org/helpful.html#Fonts.  The sound would have to be put on a separate staff that's hidden.
I"m sure some other users will chime in here, so this is just my bit.
149
General Discussion / Re: NWC Viewer limitation
I must agree with Lawrie Pardy here.  A few basic features to customize for your ears, and going from anywhere would be most useful for all.  However, printing would have to be included in this new, improved viewer, as the current viewer already has a printing feature.
On the other hand, one could have the choice between getting NWC2 Viewer Basic-View, Play, Print OR NWC2 Viewer Deluxe-View, Play from any Point, transpose, slow down/speed up, but no printing.
Regardless, no saving, and no changing values or entering notes-we need to leave some market for the full version.  ;-)
