General Discussion / Re: French forum...
If the program could be re-written in such a way that volunteers from a given country could supply the necessary bits of translation, and Eric (ideally) would only have to do a recompile, it would be very easy - and very, very marketable.
The program would have every piece of natural language tokenised (I oversimplyfy a bit, there is more to it, but that's the idea) so every token could be

I am sure that a Dutch version would be one of the first to emerge.

General Discussion / Re: Where are all those Bach cantatas?
It does, John, thanks.
But there are still many, many cantatas that still have to make it to the Internet.
I wonder how many years it will take to reach 100 % !
(and how many more years until everything is correct(ed) )
cheers,
Rob.

General Discussion / Where are all those Bach cantatas?
Hi all,
I can spend hours searching the Internet for .nwc files of Bach cantatas, or even Midi-files.
So far, I have not found that many. For instance, we are currently working on cantata 37 (Wer da glaubet und getauft wird). In PDF, everything is available... but Noteworthy? Sadly, no.
Or am I overlooking sources?
cheers,
Rob.

General Discussion / One of those conversion questions
Hi all,
A friend asks me "p.s. kan jij finale-bestandjes omzetten naar midi? Kan ik dit zelf misschien?"
Can you convert finale-files to Midi? Could I do this myself maybe?

I have searched the forum and found much - but not what I need. I just tried Harmony Assistant, but the export capabilities of the trial version consist of a few bars only.
Is there another way of converting .mus to Midi, or better still, to .nwc? Maybe to Music XML?

cheers,
Rob.

General Discussion / Audacity
Hello all,
Lots of us use Audacity - I have seen the name mentioned often enough.
Today, I ran into "audacity" in a non-musical sense. Funny enough to mention it:
look at www.icanhascheezburger.com
as more pictures get added, the picture goes down on the page, eventually it goes to page 2, and so on...
so you may have to rummage a bit.
cheers,
Rob.

Instrument Trees / Re: Orchestral itree
Babelfish never ceases to make me smile.

"hola Tina, como hago para conseguir el software que usas para mejorar los sonidos de la PC."
Want to know what that translated to?
"hello Bathtub, since I make to secure software that you use to improve the sounds of the PC."

I suppose (but please help) that this would be closer:
"Hello Tina, What do I do to get the sofware that you use to improve the sounds of the PC?"

General Discussion / Re: Scriptorium Update
Ah - sorry about that.
Yes, safe and sound. Thanks for the file you sent - the computer at home is still quite down but your mp3 will be waiting for me.
cheers,
Rob.

General Discussion / Re: Scriptorium Update
Rich,

I realise that most of the Eagle Earing is done in the Newsgroup, but my computer is on the blink.
Please tell Josh Hauck that in "Hear my prayer, o Lord" by Purcell bar 16 needs attention.
I have never seen the organ part, but I am quite sure that the first notes in bar 16 of Organ 2 and 3 should be natural, to concur with the tenor part.

cheers,
Rob.

General Discussion / Re: Tremelos and Arpeggiated Chords
OT indeed. It must have been Stuart.
The Hippopotamus knows its plurals, and more:
"Now more hippopotami began to convene
On the bank of that river so wide
I wonder now what am I  to say of the scene
That ensued on the Shalimar side?"

Mind the rhyme in the middle of the line!
OT or not, I feel that I have a learned a bit more about the Italian language, which cannot hurt.

General Discussion / Re: Tremelos and Arpeggiated Chords
True maybe, but hey, where would the fun go?
Now we can say "I did not eat much - only had one broccolo."
And when I am drunk I can see two cities, each called Napolo. Together they are called Napoli.

Announcements / Re: NWC2 Beta 2.27 is now available
It marks the bars between the point where you started and the bar where you want to go.
So, if you want to perform a certain action on bars 41-60 on all twelve staves of your score, life is now a lot easier.

General Discussion / Re: 2.0 Release
The one you want to address is Eric.
The answer is (historically) No / Wait and see.

But maybe this time I am completely wrong. I would welcome it.

General Discussion / Re: multiduration chord buglet
John White will be very pleased. In my capacity of "Eagle Ear" corrector, I have found many a case where the stem up note and the stem down note in the same chord did not agree on accidentals.

General Discussion / Re: Importing 6/8 and 3/4 midi files
Keyboards can act in most peculiar ways. A strange "status change" takes place when you hit Alt and Shift together. You will see that some keys now act differently. Hit Alt and Shift again - the effects will be undone.

Don't know if this is happens on every computer - but it could be a cause.
cheers, Rob.

General Discussion / Re: display suggestion
I do agree that the bar number can mean any of those.
The bar number that corresponds with the Ctrl-G command (go to bar number ...) would be the most useful.
"Let's see, where am I now? Bar number 123. Fine. Fiddle and fool around... now let's get back."
Ctrl-G, 123. That should get you back to where you were.
127
General Discussion / Re: display suggestion
Yes, yes, yes please!
It seems like a little change to do.
Please let it hitch a ride in the next update!
Down with percentages, up the bar numbers!

General Discussion / Re: Real Music Composition Software
That should make me feel guilty as hell for using Noteworthy Composer but never (really) having composed a single piece of musing. Lucky for me: guilt is one of my underdeveloped features.

I am not so sure of the musical outcome of a machine that does the hard work. It's a bit like church organs:  an electronic thing could never take its place... or could it? I have seen and heard Heijligers organs that are very, very impressive. Not quite the organs that you find in large churches and cathedrals, but still, of extremely good quality indeed. And "it could never be done, because..."

Well, the qualities that are asked of a "composing machine" are not within reach yet. But impossible? No.

General Discussion / Re: Choir Music
It is always interesting to see how you combine an excellent answer (well, this one was easy) with the voicing of a wish, or even a complaint.
I haste to add that I agree with the wish.

General Discussion / Re: Question from newbie
Many songs are available in Midi-form. Many in Noteworthy as well.
However great your scanning program, it's much faster to find songs on the Internet. Always worth a try.
If it's for rehearsal purposes only, how it comes out visually does not matter much. Then, just Midi is fine, most of the time.
Could you name a few of the things you want to rehearse?

General Discussion / Re: Windows Vista and Help files
Dos 3.1 wasn't much good... Too few file handles. Working with dBASE and Clipper, Dos 3.2 and 3.3 brought long longed-after enhancements. But Dos 5, yes, that was sooo cool, with everything that went up high. 640 K all for yourself, well, nearly.
I like my XP now. It does all kinds of things that were absolutely impossible back in the old days. Vista will have to improve drastically before I ever switch over to it.
I would probably not even touch a free copy. I have no machine that is powerful enough to run it on. Leave that to (relatively) zooming XP.

General Discussion / Re: NWC for iMac
BobPetty,

AFAIK, the drum in my printer will go up to 8000 or 9000 copies. Replacing it costs about 180 Euros, and non-HP drums exist, costing half that. 100 pounds is daylight robbery for 5000 copies. It's a HP 2550C (can check at home)

General Discussion / Re: Stepwise Playback - Possible?
I use Noteworthy for choral rehearsal - but only with small groups. Tenors only, maybe tenors and basses (bases? keep forgetting - the other ones might be fish)

So, how do I do that? Play the bits we want to sing. If it's not all that difficult, sing along guys! Too hard? Listen again. Got that? Now try it... wait for it... F5, go. Hop on the bandwagon.
Pick out the difficult bars, re-rehearse them. Now: Noteworthy supplies only a starting chord. You're on your own, fellers. Da capo. Go!
I have my tuning fork handy, too.
Needless to say, Noteworthy is fine for me as it is, in this respect.

General Discussion / Re: NWC for iMac
I have the funny notion that Noteworthy started to exist before the commercial motive arose. It's like "hey, this might be a good idea. Let's work on it a little. A little more. A lot. Well now, others seem to like it. Might there be a market?
From that perspective (if it's right) it is not so crazy to develop on the platform you're familiar with - and for many of us, it's Windows.
I'm not saying Linux is a bad idea. Far from it; widening the Noteworthy-horizon might attract many more to the Noteworthy-community. But there's quite a hurdle to be cleared; maybe more than one.

General Discussion / Re: strange sound card behavior
In likewise circumstances I put some cotton in my ears. It filters the high notes but leaves most of the music intact. Sounds crazy? Not for me it doesn't. I treasure my ears
(they don't call me Eagle Ears for nothing in the Newsgroup)

General Discussion / Re: An issue with accidentals
Are these four pages just one song file? Or is the part in C in another .nwc file? Transposing from C needs the dummy key signature to be there. Just a thought...

General Discussion / Re: Change the stick side of a note
Gokje: Evert Jan van Loenen?

anyway, welcome to the forum. Lots of Dutchmen around here, anyway. And a certain number of Afrikaners.
Stick around, there is enough going on here to make it worth your while. I'm from Utrecht, by the way.
cheers,
Rob.

General Discussion / Re: Separate Staves, Same Page (Vocalises)
And welcome from me, too.
Your name is quite clear now - but would you believe that I first thought was that ended in "atheist?"
The second thought (which came 1/4 sec later) was: Regina the First. That seems more truthful.

I completely agree with Lawrie.

General Discussion / Re: Sound for each note input
Hi BA,
Yes, the forum would not be itself without Lawrie! There are more virtuosos, and they all deserve this title by being knowledgeable and helpful.Hang around, you might learn a thing or two!
And yes, welcome to the forum.
Rob.

General Discussion / Re: MPC restoring
I should have said:
Your suggestion should be all that Maurizio needs.
Somehow your stage name is easier to remember.
147
General Discussion / Re: MPC restoring
Thank you! I was already a bit afraid that my answer was not quite accurate, however well intended (I did not test - oh the shame)
Your suggestion should be all that Flurmy needs.

General Discussion / Re: Silly notation
Bar it? Well, better not. Try it - if it does a useful (if not 100 %) job, enjoy the results. If not, undo the Audit and try something else.
A warning would be in place, but going along an unusual path (user-defined signatures are not common; I have never seen one- please help) makes you run the risk that the programmer did not go the same way before you. And that's when you should check the outcome.
