General Discussion / Re: Converting NWC to MP3 or WMP
Simpest way is to save file as .mid, then download JetAudio Freeware and install. Does a direct conversion to .wav etc. Sound might be slightly different but for practice purposes and making CDs or mp3s OK.

General Discussion / Re: Wishes...
Not sure what Christian means "word extenders" but if it's the dash - underscore - after a syllable to indicate a long note, I have been using modified fonts for lyrics for ages, where I have made the ^ into an underscore line __ (because underscore in NWC1 was always for spacing) . I think I even made a post about it in Forum. Also I made a NWC score with 2, 4, 6, 8, length dashes to insert in bars where the syllable is held for a long time. I just bring that file up and set it in restore down, and when I need it bring it up and copy and paste in the relevant spot. Of course if you're using the modified font, which I just call Font2, you have to send it to other members who use the viewer to copy to their windows/fonts file.

General Discussion / Re: ANSI/ASCI Flats etc
thanks Lawrie, I realise what you say, but really I'm looking for a  'universal' "flat" that I can pop in any Word Processor type application, like with ANSI codes  ê ë ì ç  etc.

General Discussion / ANSI/ASCI Flats etc
Have we  progressed yet to be able to type a decent flat or sharp in text as in a title or chord, simply with Alt+ or other keyboard shortcut. I know you can do it in Word but how in NWC?

General Discussion / Re: "Real voices" for lyrics
Buon Giorno Guido, 'Virtual Singer" does work on a Midi file saved from NWC with lyrics, not perfectly, but does work and if you work on the options you can change many details like formants etc.
But if you have plenty money you can get "Vocaloid" about $700 I believe.

General Discussion / Convert NWC2 to NWC1
Is there any way to convert NWC2 files so they can be used in NWC1?
NWC2 is such a pain, when you make a file with a particular version it won't open in an older version so when you send it by email it can't be used by others. It can be viewed by NWC2 Viewer, but not adjusted i.e pan or volume, etc. and cannot be started except at the begining.
I must make sure I don't use it in future.

General Discussion / Re: Novice question
Hi Linlin check out my previous post 'Multiple Line Lyrics Tip' where I use a numbered-dash text file as an aid to positioning occaisonal lyrics.

General Discussion / Re: Midi editor
Another way this could be done is if the midi was imported into NWC and there was a "Global" or "System" tool in NWC where say the required 'cut' or 'copy' section was selected in the the top staff, then activating the "System", it dropped the highlighted portion through all the staves and then the whole section moved. Not sure if a tool to do this could be made. Something similar can be done in 'Sibelius', but there are still bugs.

General Discussion / Re: Midi editor
Thanks, but my Audacity, which is the latest, clearly states "Audacity does not play or edit Midi". Am I reading something wrong?

General Discussion / Midi editor
can anyone recommend a simple midi editor where I can cut and paste and fade in and out exerpts of carols in midi format to make a backing track? I can do it fine in wave or mp3 but the file sizes end up too big.

General Discussion / Re: I need suggestions for a digital recorder.
Hi Al, In my latest catalogue from my friendly neighbourhood music store in Brisbane, there are several mini hand-held recorders.Starting at Au$219 for a Tascam Portastudio O1 or Boss MicroBR 4 track at Au$449 etc. Hope this helps.

General Discussion / Re: NWC to Finale PrintMusic?
You can also 'pad' lines out by inserting text and in the text box just use spaces from the space-bar, and on the 'Expression Placement' tab tick the 'Preserve Width' box. These 'pads' can be inserted between any notes to adjust the look and fill of a page. NWC2 will give better slurs and better note-stem length on semi-quavers etc., but for printing, if you can't get NWC2 don't despair because the NWC2 viewer is free to all and you can print preview and print from it.

General Discussion / Re: Human Voices
Try downloading Virtual Singer, it is part of Harmony Assistant or Melody Assistant I think and there is a Trial Shareware that works. It imports a midi made with NWC and Lyrics, and makes a synthetic voice. Not the best all the time but with a lot of detail - formants and decays etc can be changed. Sometimes you have to 'cheat ' and make phonetic lyrics. Quite useful for learning CDs - exports to .wav or .mp3. Cheaper than the BIG GUNS that cost bout $700

General Discussion / Re: Lyric across bar-line
Thanks Rick, But I can't find that file. I have made my own and together with a modified font can copy and paste suitable length lines as text. I type the word and then the first dash with ^ using the modified font. Then copy and paste the line I want. Have to sometimes adjust vertical and sometimes use centre or right placement, but looks and prints well.Would insert the file and font but can't work out this crazy forum.

General Discussion / Lyric across bar-line
When bringing out an old (2001) nwc file of mine to print, probably done in 1.5 or something and printing it now again from 1.75b, I have problems with long lyric syllables with ------ to indicate sustain, not being able to cross a bar-line ino the subsequent tied notes, and thus stretching out the space to the last note of the bar.i.e the lyric word "fall-----------" going from crotchet 4 in the bar tied to a semi-breve in the next bar.My old hard copies have this, no problem, but I can't do it now.Is there a work-around or is there some box I haven't ticked?

General Discussion / Mezzo-staccato
Is there any way to notate mezzo-staccato (portato) without resorting to text?
The tenuto dash and accent will notate together from the toolbar but the tenuto dash and staccato dot are mutually exclusive. Do we need to put on the wish-list to be able to have both together. Might need vertical adjustment in the programming of the dot to have them both display.

General Discussion / Re: Making a hymnal
If you're taking a lot of trouble to make a hymn book, you're far better off to make a custom size page in between A4 and A5 and print the pages on their own. Then find someone with a binding cutter to cut the pages so you can insert a plastic spine. This makes a far better job than two-to-a-page printing and fold and staple. You can make a good cover maybe with harder material, the book sits flat, new pages can be inserted later, and really A5 which is half A4 can make the print pretty small. I have done both methods over the ages and the plastic spine (spline?), is the best.
