User Tools / Re: rg_CloneStaff.php - an enhanced AddStaff
Rick and Warren,
please be patient with me.

I do read the instructions, but that does not necessarily mean that I've understood them.
In this case,
"The tool requires:

•Input Type: File Text
•Options: Returns File Text"

Fine, brief, concisely put.
Problem is, as I do not know what "File Text" is - the whole instruction is lost on me.

General Discussion / Re: uncomplete staff view in an orchestral score
Rick,
Thanks for reminding us about "rg_Squash.php".
This is a very useful tool, which I previously had overlooked.

At present it's set to apply spacer width of 0.00, which (I think) is the utmost "scrunch" one can apply.

May I request a modified tool which would prompt for a width?
Reason for this request: I've used widths of 0.5 to 0.9 to gently nudge some measures to where I want them.

Together with "rg_ZapSpacer.php" this would be a formidable team.

General Discussion / Re: MusicXML to Noteworthy converter
I've been using the old convertor for years, and it has served me VERY well.

I tried the on-line version just now, with a SHARPEYE created *.XML  out of a folder six layers down  in drive O:\
On line, the new convertor received my .xml file and copied the name back for me.

Please help, where do I go from there?
I could not find anything returned to my PC.

I'm running XP SP3, was using IE8 (Firefox is available)

General Discussion / Re: uncomplete staff view in an orchestral score
Raffaele,
my comment is:
Confirmed that all measures up to 78 ARE visible in the EDITOR of NWC Test Edition 2.51 Beta 2
and not all are visible in the editor NWC 2.5.5
In print preview, the measures are visible (truncated) in both versions.

Usually the implementation of a tremolo is NOT printed, but substituted by the appropriate symbol.

I would hide your sample staff (for playback), and provide a muted staff with the correct symbols for printing.

If you absolutely insist on having to print all those notes, you might manage it
(in NWC 2.5.5 and in NWC Test Edition 2.51 Beta 2):

1. Before opening NWC, setting your default printer to LANDSCAPE (instead of Portrait.)
2. In NWC UNselecting  at:  File -> Page Setup -> Options -> "Increase spacing for longer notes"
3. Adding a 0.5 spacer between all of the 1/64th notes
(This is laborious, but actually manages to shrink the measures to fit into a LANDSCAPE format, gradually making more  visible in the NWC 2.5.5 editor.)
4. Reduce page margins all round to 1.0 cm (instead of 1.27cm = 0.5 inch)

User Tools / Re: rg_CloneStaff.php - an enhanced AddStaff
Rick, this tool is what I've been waiting for!

Unfortunately, being a bit backward and dense,
I need help to translate your instruction:

The tool requires:
  • Input Type: File Text
  • Options: Returns File Text

into exactly what I have to do
to install and run the tool.

On trying to use it in the same way as (say) "GlobalMod",
without selecting anything on the staff,
I got the following error message:

Error: [in C:\Program Files\Noteworthy Software\NoteWorthy Composer 2\Scripts\rg_CloneStaff.php, at line 14]
--> NWC User Tool Input Type: File Text is required.

Your help will be most appreciated.

General Discussion / Re: transpose music
David, my reasoning is:
1. I'm basically lazy - i.e. I prefer the assurance that CHANGE CLEF will do the job CORRECTLY, for me.
I hate to have to do the equivalent of "ENTER" 12 times,
(and maybe miscount in the process, as recently happened when CLEF CHANGE was not available),
    landing-up who knows where.

2. CHANGE CLEF handles pretty much ALL the clefs which I've ever come across,
which is a great help to me, as I battle figuring-out anything other than Treble and Bass.

3. NWC 2.5.5 handles user tools in a totally different way to NWC 2.1 - hence anybody who migrates from 2.1 to 2.5.5,
and who has his/her own private user tools, would have to migrate those tools.
    That's where Rick's write-up comes in splendidly.

'K heb gezecht (Dutch for: "I've had my say".)

General Discussion / Re: transpose music
An octave transposition is 12 semitones (not 10).

The most efficient way (in my opinion) of changing trable clef to bass (and simultaneously transposing an octave down)
is to use the user tool CLEF CHANGE (which allows you to change between pretty much ALL clefs)

To download CLEF CHANGE, with instruction for installation, go to:

http://nwc-scriptorium.org/nwc2scripts_kbsc_clef_change.html

This will be sufficient for NWC2.1

The trick to do a clef change from treble to bass AND simultaneously do an octave DOWN transposition,
is to use the (very much counter-intuitive) "Octave UP" option on CLEF CHANGE,
and then merely replacing the target clef with the standard Bass clef.

If you are using NWC2.5.5, you will need to follow Rick's excellent  write-up on
how to migrate user tools from NWC 2.1 to NWC 2.5.5.

User Tools / Re: Request for help to migrate user tools from NWC 2.1 to NWC 2.5.5
Hi Lawrie,
thanks for your effort -
which applies to people who've arrived at NWC 2.5 via the upgrade path from 2.1.

Unfortunately,
Installing directly from NWC 2.5 gives:
1. An automatic installation of usertools - and NO Starterkit which I can find.

2. C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Noteworthy Software\nwc2\config\FileMRU.dat

(which I cannot open, nor edit)

3. C:\Program Files\Noteworthy Software\Noteworthy composer 2
            \itrees
            \PHP\php.ini
            \SAMPLES
            \Scripts
                  \lib
                  \wx
                  \wxtools
            \Scripts_UNUSED
            \Setups
            \Template

and php.ini contains:

{ PHP

error_reporting  =  E_ALL | E_STRICT
display_errors = On
display_startup_errors = On
date.timezone = "US/Central"
allow_url_fopen = Off
extension_dir = "."
include_path=".;C:\Program Files\Noteworthy Software\NoteWorthy Composer 2\Scripts"
}

............. which leaves me floundering
without any indication  of where my old tools are to be entered.

General Discussion / Re: Lyrics not displaysing v 2.5.5
In your reply to this message:
Please attach a copy of the problem NWC file, by clicking on "Additional options" at the bottom left of the message frame, and browsing on your PC / laptop for the file.

Then experienced members on the forum can try to help you.

General Discussion / Re: Boxmarks don't work properly on my laptop computers
If your laptops do not run the user tool "kph_MultiBarRest_Boxmark.php",
it may be that the laptops are running a version of NWC which does not recognise "non-official" user tools.

For help with that problem, I posted a request for help to migrate user tools from NWC 2.1 to NWC 2.5.5, (2012-11-23).

User Tools / Request for help to migrate user tools from NWC 2.1 to NWC 2.5.5
Some months ago, I purchased and installed NWC 2.5, which has been upgraded to NWC 2.5.5.
The old (licenced) version of NWC has been lost.

The attached "LEGACY_config_SELECTION.txt" contains some of the "user tools"
which I had built-up / collected over a number of years.

1. I shudder at the thought of having to type in some of those long parameter lists for "GlobalMod"
2. So far,  I couldn't get any of the "Non-official" *.PHP tools to work in NWC 2.5.5.
3. Some of the *.VBS tools are very useful and I would love to be able to use them again.

My PC is XP SP3.

Help to get me going again, will be most appreciated.
(Please spell out, step-by-step, what I must be doing).

General Discussion / Re: altered layout
Leon,
I've been using PDF995 for many years,
and it seems the authors think the only paper size is LETTER.
What's worse, they have definitions for LETTER hidden all over the place.
Once you've tracked-down ALL cases of LETTER in the settings for your PDF995 printer,
and changed them to A4, your problem should be solved.

(I would prefer an overriding setting in NWC where I could choose to which paper size I want to print.)

You can set PDF995 to create B&W files (singly, or by default),
but I've never had any background discouloured when printing to PDF995.

General Discussion / How does one regain KBs needed for Attachments?
In trying to submit a reply
(with an attachment which I thought to be approx 21KB)
to "deleted music", I was informed that I'd exceeded the 1024KB limit.

Does this mean that I've got to go through (all) my old posts and remove attachments,
in order to regain KBs?
125
General Discussion / Re: deleted music
Rik B,
I suspect that your problem lies in the settings of
the Recycle bin of your PC.
(For XP): Right click on the Recycle bin, and select Properties.
My suggestions are:
1. DO NOT tick "Configure drives independently"
2. Tick            "Use one setting for all drives"
3.  DO NOT tick "Do not move files file to the Recycle bin....."
4.  Select         "Maximum size ..... " according to your liking, (10% on my PC)
5.  Tick            "Display delete confirmation dialog"  (THIS HAS SAVED Me VERY< VERY often)

Settings may differ for other operating systems.

General Discussion / Re: Master repeat open prints as Local repeat open
Rob,
you had a MIS-match of spacers:

Both SA and TB had spacers,
but not the next 2 staffs.

Adding similar spacers to BOTH the bottom staffs, cures the problem.
(Adding a spacer to only one of the bottom staffs, cures the problem for that staff only.)

Why you get the difference, is beyond me.

General Discussion / Re: Hiding Hairpins
If the notes in the handwritten charts are high quality they may also be clear enough for Sharpeye's optical character recognition, too.

While I agree with most of the other remarks in the previous reply,
as a regular Sharpeye user,
I would not pin much hope on the above remark.
In my experience, the hand written music would have to be of EXCEPTIONALLY high quality, before Sharpeye recognises anything more than barlines.
128
General Discussion / Re: Bug -- slur over hidden note
Rob,
my suggestion to improve
music where you have lyrics and/or 2 voices on a staff,
is to reduce (just about) all note stems to 6, some even to 5 (instead of the default 7).
That will not cure your problem,
but may go some way in improving what the music looks like in NWC.
131
General Discussion / Re: I've had it!
Joe,
ABSOLUTELY no flak.

I agree with you -
I've been using NWC since before V1.55,

but

with the continued absence of glyphs which are regularly required,
NWC is "shooting itself in the foot".
132
General Discussion / Re: how hide empty staves box?
Gillysteo,
it will help very much, if you would  use the
"Additional Options > Attach: > Browse "
to locate the file on which you are working, to attach it to your message,
and then in words tell us what you want to do.
134
General Discussion / Re: Transposition feature doesn't work
NWC 1.7 worked wonders with its transposition feature for staff, but now I just got 2.5 and it no longer works.
NOT TRUE.
Please remember to declare the key if the original is in C maj.

Edit on 2012-03-08:The transpose "will not work" = "still sound the same as before"
WHEN
"Update staff play back transposition" is checked, as in the attached picture.

If all this information still does not help, please attach a copy of the offending  file, and explain what you intended to do.

General Discussion / Re: changing music from treble clef to bass clef
An application, would be if the Cello is to play the Soprano part, and needs to change the treble clef to bass clef, and transpose the music one octave (12 semitones) down:

If you've installed "User Tools" already, then "CLEF CHANGE",
a user tool which can change clefs between just about all clefs in use
will do the job nicely.

It can be used to change clef for a whole staff, or a selection which must have a clef signature
(at its beginning).

It's available at:

http://nwc-scriptorium.org/nwc2scripts_kbsc_clef_change.html

General Discussion / Re: orchestral bracket even with 1 staff
Thank you Rick,
this is a neat workaround  for NWC 2.5.3,

which is faster to implement than describe:

1. It needs a (new) "blank" Staff directly below where the single staff Orchestral Bracket is needed.
2. This "blank" staff must be in the same group as the staff above it.
3. This "blank" staff must (in F2) have Ending Bar set to "hidden"
4. This "blank" staff must have , using Insert > Boundary Change > "Start a collapsible section"
139
General Discussion / Re: orchestral bracket even with 1 staff
Sorry, it seems to me that it is not possible in NWC 2.5.3 to have an orchestral bracket on a single staff.
Not even when it is layered to the following staff.

Rick G. might suggest a work-around for you.

General Discussion / Re: Note Resolution When Importing MIDI File
Dripley,
my experience has been that NWC does NOT import MIDI very well.

A solution:
Install the free MuseScore,
open your midi in MuseScore and export as *.XML
Convert to NWC using MXML2NWCC.exe
available (free) at:

http://www.niversoft.com/downloads/mxml2nwcc.zip

Another program which (to my mind) does a fine job of importing MIDI,
is Notation Musician.
The evaluation version might allow you to import and get another look at what
the music notation looks like.

The rather expensive Notation Composer can import Midi and export XML.

General Discussion / Re: Beam Command on Noteworthy 2.5.2
DOUGBANEY,
I'm happy that your beaming problem is solved.

On my PC, the  BLANK reply screen looks like the first attached picture.
If yours differs, it may be that you need to upgrade your community membership.
In that case, click on the "more" in the fine print at the top of the screen.

Whilst I'm typing this message, my screen looks like the second picture.

FIREFOX is trying to run in Afrikaans on my PC,
so if you wanted to attach a file,
you'd be clicking on the button which spells "Blaai" (instead of "Browse")
144
General Discussion / Re: Beam Command on Noteworthy 2.5.2
It's difficult to give an answer from your description.

I suspect that sometimes NWC refuses to beam because you would be violating timimg rules.

I suggest:
1. In NWC, Click on "VIEW", select "Toolbars" and ensure that all (but "piano" possibly excepted)
are checked.

2. Tell us in which measure and staff of your music the trouble occurs

3. When you reply, click on "Additional Options" (below the area where you would be typing your message) and in the "Attach" type in the FULL info for the offending *.nwc file: eg something like "C:\My music\trouble.nwc"

Click on "Browse" to select the file you want to attach.

4. In Additional options, check "Notify me of replies", which will generate e-mail to your e-mail address when somebody replies.

5. Submit, and wait to see what further assistance will be offered.

General Discussion / Re: Viewer Play Speed
It would be a welcome improvement, if the Viewer and NWC could have "Play Panels"
with functions similar to either of the attached samples,
