General Discussion / Re: Start/Stop command question
I am confused by these two statements:

Quote
  • I cannot use F6 to stop play because it "locks up" the Allen organ completely
  • The "start / stop" buttons work without an issue

The F6 key, the Stop toolbar button, and the Tools->Stop menu command all do the exact same thing.

You can also use the Esc key to stop the play back. Alternately, the Viewer supports the Space Bar approach.

General Discussion / Re: Strange tie behaviour in version 2.5.x
Should be improved in NWC Version 2.5.5, which is currently in beta release. In version 2.5.5, new ties are constrained to the selection when multiple notes are selected. If just a single chord is selected, the tie continues to be added or removed to all notes in the chord.

General Discussion / Re: Strange tie behaviour in version 2.5.x
After reviewing this, there is definitely room for improvement. Adding a tie to a selection that contains both ends of the tie could probably be done in a way that yields your desired result, and it would be quite logical. Stay tuned...

General Discussion / Re: 2.5 update fails
In that case, the failure message would be different. The 2.5 upgrade specifically checks the currently installed version and reports a "not found" error if there is a mismatch. Also, just in case there is any confusion, there was no 2.3 version.

General Discussion / Re: 2.5 update fails
I get an error message that the version is either corrupted or the files size is wrong.

This generally indicates some kind of corruption/alteration in your NWC 2.1 program binary. Does the NWC 2.1 binary, nwc2.exe, still contain a valid digital signature? In general, I would strongly recommend both a full disk defect scan, as well as a full anti-virus scan, in order to track down what might have altered the NWC 2.1 program binary.

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.4 [Beta Concluded, Release Available]
I can't help wondering if there is something wrong with either the install routine, the application itself or the Windows versions in question.  I don't recall if it has been only Vista/Win7 or if XP has been in trouble too.

There was a problem in the original 2.5 version releases. This was corrected in the installers for the newest update, as well as the Viewer.

I believe that there was a bug in the original NWC 2.5 installers with regard to installing/upgrading the font. It may have been fixed in the newer installers, but the issue will be reviewed to make sure that it is truly solved going forward.

As far as I know, reinstalling the latest Viewer should always correct the problem. If anyone still experiences the font issue, please let us know.

General Discussion / Re: Change the position of a sharp
He saw a message like "The nwc2stda.ttf font cannot be found on the system."

The solution was simple enough. The error message told him what to do (but it was a bit difficult;

I am not familiar with a scenario such as is described here. What did the error message tell him to do?

The latest NWC Viewer automatically validates the system to ensure that the NWC 2.5 font is correctly installed in the system. If it is unable to install or replace the font, then an error message is given. A system restart will generally solve these kind of problems, and then the Viewer can be (re)installed.

General Discussion / Re: Can NWC 2.5 export in 1.75 format?
The ability to export back to NWC 1.75 will be in NWC 2.5.4,  which will be generally available in a few days.

Obviously, much can be lost in the conversion, but perhaps those that need it will find it of some use.

General Discussion / Re: I've had it!
I do currently have a problem though.  Everytime when I start NWC2.5, I get an error saying that the font is missing, but if I restart NWC, it's fine.  This only occurs when I start NWC2.5 after system booting.  It seems that the fonts are not loaded until initially, could it be my startup config?

I believe that there was a bug in the original NWC 2.5 installers with regard to installing/upgrading the font. It may have been fixed in the newer installers, but the issue will be reviewed to make sure that it is truly solved going forward.

General Discussion / Re: Intermittent layering of Vocal Scores
This can be done for printing by making two staffs for each part, one for the layer, and the other for the unlayared. Once this is done, you can collapse one or the other staff as needed in the printout using a Boundary Change.

General Discussion / Re: No sound
I have downloaded NoteWorthy Composer Viewer and when I play the score there is no sound. I have tested playing mid files with VLC and indeed they are played ok.

Are you sure that VLC is playing to the same "Pro24 MIDI" device as configured in the Viewer? AFAIK, VLC uses FluidSynth for its play back.

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.1 Beta 1
Your results tend to indicate that Chrome just won't load the plugin on your computer. Very strange...

If you notice anything in the system logs about this, please post any details. Otherwise, for now, it seems a good course of action to wait to see if others experience the issue. Judging by our server traffic, there are many Chrome users, so a problem pattern might surface over time.

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.1 Beta 1
Two questions that might help:

1) If you check the file properties for the Viewer\npnwcw32.dll files (from Windows Explorer), does it still have our digital certificate?

2) Do you have any other npnwcw32.dll files on your computer?

If you want to experiment, you can temporarily copy the npnwcw32.dll file into the Chrome program's Plugins folder. You will find that here:

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application

You probably need to create the \Plugins folder there first.

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.1 Beta 1
If I look in the Chrome Disble plugins area, there is an npnwcw32
It says just that - npnwcw32 and does not have the text that you quoted earlier.

This indicates that Chrome is at least noticing the registry settings for the Viewer. Something is preventing it from fully including it.

Wild guess: Is your AV blocking it? Seems unlikely, since Firefox is loading it, but you never know.

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.1 Beta 1
OK, I was wrong about an anomaly. The Windows 7 x64 registry just works differently. The HKLM area for 32-bit apps automatically redirect to Wow6432Node in the x64 registry.

The magic behind the browser automatically picking up and loading the NWC Viewer plugin is found in the registry. Both Chrome and Firefox should use any plugins as defined in the registry at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins

The NWC Plugin registry area is:

@noteworthysoftware.com/NoteWorthyComposer

For some reason, Richard, your install of Chrome is not detecting this area. On Windows 7 x64, this area is technically:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\
@noteworthysoftware.com/NoteWorthyComposer

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.1 Beta 1
I really don't know. I am still reviewing everything. I found a possible anomaly with the Viewer install and the Windows 7 registry that requires further investigation. Stay tuned...

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.1 Beta 1
Well, you might try a system restart (suggestion offered reluctantly, as I do not really see how that would help).

Also, the MIME type is essential. The live Scripto files work well for me.

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.1 Beta 1
I just installed the new Viewer on a Windows 7 machine that already had Chrome installed, but not Firefox. I even did the install from a limited user account. The plugin worked immediately in a new Chrome tab. I didn't even need to restart the browser (probably due to Chrome's process sandbox isolation feature for tabs).

Still looking...

Announcements / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5.1 Beta 1
It occurs to me that all of my test machines have both browsers installed, which is probably not an ideal testing strategy. I'll try some other permutations.

In the mean time, are you viewing files/pages that you recently viewed prior to installing the new Viewer? In my testing, I have found that the browsers tend to be reluctant to update their behavior for pages/files that are in their cache.

By the way, I am posting this from Chrome using the same version as you (Chrome on x64 Windows 7). The plugin worked immediately for me. Perhaps it is because Firefox was already installed back when I first installed Chrome (which was a long time ago).

Announcements / Re: Noteworthy Composer Plugin for Winamp Version 2.5 Beta 1
Noteworthy Composer Plugin for Winamp Version 2.5 Beta 1 is now available. This release:

  • adds support for NWC version 2.5, including *.nwctxt files
  • uses the native NoteWorthy Composer performance engine, so the performance is consistent with NoteWorthy Composer and the Viewer

You can control the play back device in the same way as is possible in the Viewer using the Winamp Preferences mechanism. Press Ctrl+P in Winamp, then goto Plug-ins->Input->NWC File Player.

General Discussion / Re: MMRs for two staff instrument
You must override the default Visibility in order to get a MMR to show up in a multi-staff context:

Code: (nwc) [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.5,Single)
|RestMultiBar|NumBars:4|PrintOnce:Y|WhenHidden:ShowBars,ShowRests|Visibility:Always
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End

General Discussion / Re: Mute staff groups
I would like to be able to mute/unmute staves based on which groups they're part of, similar to the way we can currently make staff groups visible/invisible in the editor.

We will review this, since this is already what is done in Page Setup Contents. However, if it doesn't happen, a user tool could also do this rather easily.

General Discussion / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5 Beta 10

These are real stuck notes. Your note inside the repeats is triggering new notes at each repeat. If you want to notate it like this, you should at least do this:

Code: (nwc) [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.5,Single)
|Note|Dur:Whole|Pos:-1^
|Bar|Style:LocalRepeatOpen
|Note|Dur:Whole|Pos:-1^
|Bar|Style:LocalRepeatClose|Repeat:19
|Note|Dur:Whole|Pos:-1
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End

General Discussion / Re: NWC Viewer 2.5 Beta 10
Starting with the next beta, new users/fresh installs will initially have "Recall Window Size and Position" turned off. This will result in the Windows default placement for the program. The "Run" shell property specifying normal/maximized/minimized window will now be used in this situation. It was previously ignored.
