I found that the conversion of a text url into a link was a bit flakey compared to what used to be there. It may be just getting used to it. However, the box disappeared several times before I managed to get it to work. In the end, I just completed the top box and left the second box empty and this seemed to give me the same result that the old one gave.
The option to create a list does not work properly (IMHO) When selecting a list to prefix each line with a bullet, the system does not apply a bullet to each line but only to the complete list. If however, you then try and do each specific line as an individual list "[ li ]" then each line starts and ends "[ list ]" "[ /list ]"
Many of you are already using Soundfonts with NoteWorthy Composer. For those of you that don't, perhaps it's because you do not know how to set up NoteWorthy to use them.
I have written a step by step guide to setting up Coolsoft's VirtualMIDISynth and using soundfonts with NoteWorthy Composer. Written mainly for version 2.75 but will also work with earlier versions although the instructions may not quite match.
There is a pdf instruction tutorial to download as well as a resource pack. The resource pack contains all you need to follow through the worked examples given in the instruction tutorial.
The Tutorial includes the following:
Link to download file, Setup and installation of Coolsoft VirtualMIDISynth
6 nwc music files, 4 Soundfonts, 1 nwcitree, 1 info document
Worked example of using a GM Soundfont
Worked example of replacing an Instrument in a GM Soundfont using a single Instrument Soundfont
Worked example of a multi bank single instrument soundfont
Worked example of using Percussion sets
Worked example of using Special Effects from GM Soundfonts
Worked example of adding a second device so that NoteWorthy can have 30 instruments on 15 channels (and 2 drum sets on 1 percussion channel)
My thanks to @SEBC for the need and inspiration to do this. Thanks also to @Lawrie Pardy for being a sounding board for some of it (Pun intended).

Could you explain the purpose of the viewer if you already have the editor? It doesn't make sense to me.
Also, in the viewer, I was checking out all the functions (as I never have really used it, since I have the editor). The button which is supposed to loop the playback doesn't seem to be working. It doesn't go back to the start, but only replays the last few bars. What am I doing incorrectly?
Thanks
The loop only goes back to the last place that you pressed F5(Play) . So if you last pressed F5 at the start of the piece, that's where it will go back to. But if you pressed F5 at say bar 45, the loop will start again at bar 45.
This is extremely useful for example for chorister who are trying to learn a tricky part.
So for example, a chorister can press F5 at the start of a fast semi quaver run after having set the tempo at say 50% and then repeatedly play that section to try and learn it. When happy at 50% then up the tempo to 75% and repeat the process.
But understand how this works. If you press the loop button at the right hand foot of the screen, that is only for when the music comes to an end. So when the music ends, it will start again automatically from where you last pressed F5. However, to rehearse a tricky part, ignore this button. Just set the start point using the arrow keys. Press F5 and then when you want to play that part again, just press F5 and it will start again from the last place you started the music. (You don't need to press F6 to stop before doing this.)

Rich, do you combine all the parts into one score or do you provide separate versions of each part to be rehearsed with using the Viewer?
For example, an SATB score, I provide four nwc files, one for each voice part where that voice part has been enhanced and can be heard over and above the other voices. So a tenor rehearsal file would have the accompaniment, and the SA and B voiced at a volume of say 60 while the Tenor part would be at 120 with no dynamics. (OK - you wouldn't sing it like that - but this is to learn the notes, it is not teaching how to sing the music if you see what I mean). Remember also, that if the chorister thinks that they have cracked the notes, the viewer allows them to mute their voice part and just sing along with the other voices and accompaniment to prove to themselves that they really do know the notes.

As Harald says, don't use local repeats. They are not designed to work with special endings They should only be used to repeat a section with no differences at the final bars.
Master repeats, however, work well with special endings and there are many tricks that various users have managed to incorporate using both of these.
It's my understanding that the NWC Scriptorium has an engine of sorts that can play back scores directly from that site. @Richard Woodroffe , who posts the weekly Scriptorium update messages, could probably describe it better.
Mike
Yes, it does - but this is some serverside mechanics that convert the clicked nwc file to midi and then plays the midi file. There used to be a plugin for browsers that played files directly within the browser, but then Microsoft changed their engine that drove the plugins and so only non Microsoft browsers worked, and not all of them. Eventually Eric did away with the plugin.
I think this was 2003/2004.
The following was posted at the time :
Quote
Microsoft is at it again. Although we have never seen a formal announcement from Microsoft, it is clear to us from its behavior that Microsoft intends to drop support for standard browser plug-ins in their Internet Explorer product. Microsoft started this process several years ago, and it appears to be finishing the job. The most recent security update for Internet Explorer disables the Plugin.ocx mechanism, which in turn, turns off any browser plug-in that uses it, including the NWC Browser Plug-in. In its security bulletin, it implies that it will no longer be installing this mechanism with new computers. This means that over time, users wishing to take advantage of the NWC Browser Plug-in while browsing should switch to an alternate browser that supports the plug-in standard.
Edit - The last plugin setup file I have is dated May 2006

Check Tools / Options / Folders to see the folder that is assigned to backup files. You may have deleted the folder, after deleting .bak files on your computer.
.bak files in nwc have an added feature. A backup file will be saved each time you save, so for the music you are working on, there will be a record of all the steps. Very useful if you make a mess and have not realised it before saving. (So yes, Opagust, the read only one would have been created when you saved a locked file I presume)
The latest backup file is labelled name.nwc.bak as you might expect. Previous backup files to the latest one are labelled name.qx.nwc.bak where x is a number.
The maximum number used is defined in Tools/Options/File (Backups during save) and (Queue size for extra backups)
A backup file can be opened directly from the file menu (Open Backup) without the need for renaming - This therefore allows copying from the backup file to the active file, if necessary.

In what circumstances would I want something different than the native tool?
There are many circumstances.
Here are a few. You need to have the hairpin at a different vertical height to the last dynamic. You need a hairpin that is immediately after a dynamic not to collide with the dynamic. You need a sloping hairpin. You need to start a new hairpin (of the same direction), immediately after the last one - no gaps inbetween. You need to have two different hairpins for different voices on an SATB or even the Grand staff.

The Scriptorium pdf catalogue has been improved. There are now two catalogues.
The first catalogue has details of all the files (as did the original) except now, it specifies which files are zip files and the following the named zip, files marked *:- are the nwc files that you will find in that zip file or can be downloaded separately. Previously, these files were listed alphabetically within the composer name and so could not be identified as also being part of a zip file.
The second catalogue contains all individual nwc files, all zip files but none of the files that are contained within zip files.
So for example, a zip file of Fauré's requiem would now show :
zip: Requiem (Op.48), 1887-9 *:- Requiem - No.1: Kyrie *:- Requiem - No.2: Offertorium *:- Requiem - No.3: Sanctus *:- Requiem - No.4: Pie Jesu *:- Requiem - No.5: Agnus Dei *:- Requiem - No.6: Libera Me *:- Requiem - No.7: In Paradisum
in the first catalog, but only
zip: Requiem (Op.48), 1887-9
in the second catalogue.

That is, a slur which starts on a regular note must end on a regular note; a slur that starts on a grace note must end on a grace note.
Not quite. You will find that a slur which starts on a grace note can end on a regular note. Why you shouldn't be able to force the other direction - who knows. As well as that, a slur that comes from a grace note and ends on a regular note will also allow another slur to start on that regular note. So the regular note then becomes the end point of a slur and start point of another. Shame it cant be done if the end point slur comes from a slur starting from a regular note.

I edited it because when I went back and checked it - it wasn't true. It was better to score it out rather than delete it.
The confusing issue is that the auto backups give you a series of files going back in time.
The autosave, just gives you one file that will be there if your machine crashes out for some reason and you have not saved . (As far as I can see. ) Once you have a current save, then there is no longer an autosave file in the folder. This is what confused me at first because I was checking after saving.

AAs far as I remember, if you have your back up files folder the same as your autosave files folder, then it doesn't work. For some reason they have to be different folders. Sorry, I know that doesn't help you. Not sure that there is anything else I can suggest.
