General Discussion / Re: Scriptorium Update
John,

This is a problem that crops up every now and then - you probably have installed the NoteWorthy Browser plug-in.
This no longer works with the later versions of IE (version 6 and above). If you have this installed then all you will get is exactly what you are getting.

I suggest that you uninstall it and then when you click on a file in the Scriptorium, when asked, select "open with" and then point to the NWC viewer.  This will then direct the file to either NWC1 or NWC2 as appropriate.

There is further information aout this issue from NoteWorthy here :  http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/news/21.htm

General Discussion / Re: Staff name is cut off
I think whatmay be happening is that you are telling NWC that your printer can handle a margin that it can't.
Go to the extreme just to check. Change the inside edge to something like 3 or 4 centimetres and then try it.

Don't necessarily rely on the print preview. It may be lying to you.

General Discussion / Re: NWC2 not properly playing some songs from Scriptorium?
Bob,

You didn't say if you tried to play that from a clean boot - but anyway, I really think that it might be a driver problem.

All I can say is that although I haven't played all of the files you quote, I have played the last before and then the Tchaikovsky. I don't get your problems. There are certainly no missing strings in Tina's 1812.

After this problem happens, I would also like you to change the channel number and see if it plays  with shift f5  (right click - staff properties, midi) if it doesn't play, try changing the instrument. Let us know.

I still feel that it might be a driver problem - but other may have better ideas. Have you tried searching for an updated driver?

I would like to know what happens if you play the symphony No 4 file directly after re-booting.

General Discussion / Re: NWC2 not properly playing some songs from Scriptorium?
Bob,

I also had a quick look and found no problem (not that I think that any of the other people who had a listen might be wrong), but I was looking from a Scriptorium perspective.

There are a few versions of the "Carnival" - perhaps you could say which one you were playing. I used Ramón Pajares Box's sequence to try this out. Was this the one you were using ?

Which piece did you finish with before moving on to Tchaikovsky ?

Can you try to load the Tchaikovsky diectly onto NWC2 after a boot up and see if you still get the problem (ie a clean boot and no Carnival first).

General Discussion / Re: From .sib to .nwc
If you don't have access to the Sibellius program then you can't export to midi.

I presume that you have got hold of a copy of a Sibellius music file on the net and you want to put it into NoteWorthy.

The only thing I can think of is, if you have Sharpeye, to print out the music using Scorch (Hmmm  does Scorch print - not sure) and then scan in the music and use Sharpeye to generate an MXML file and feed that into NoteWorthy using Nicolas Hatier's MXML to NWC2 conversion program  mxml2nwcc.exe

If you don't have Sharpeye/MXML2EXE/NWC2  then print out the Score and re-enter manually !

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get around this.

Well I can't resist this comment because I don't like Windows 2000 -  How about getting a windows XP machine.

Seriously though - it might be a fragmentation of the disk drive problem - and this may effect swapping - also check the size of the swap file.

HAve you tried defragging

General Discussion / Re: BAK File
Just because it is a BAK file does not mean that it can e imported to Excel. It would just depend on the format of the original creating program.

For example, NoteWorthy Composer creates .bak files but you can't load them into Excel, only into NoteWorthy Composer or viewer.

If the original program saved it's files in a format that Excel understands (.xls .txt .db .csv .wk1 etc) then you should just be able to rename the .bak to the original name then load it into Excel.

But why are you asking your questions in a NoteWorthy forum ?

General Discussion / Re: user tools starter kit
If you look in your programs folder under the entry for NoteWorthy Composer 2, there will be a scripts folder.
This is the folder all the user tools reside in.

If this is empty or if you do not have a scripts directory then the user tools have not been installed properly.

(Did you have full access to the Programs folder when you ran the user tools installation ?)

General Discussion / Re: Need help with writing something in Rhapsody In Blue
Only when I've finished it.  There's no way I would release it in it's current state. As I said - It's a 2 year old file. It has migrated through several versions of NWC . Even though it's not finished, it needs a major revision to update it to some of the newer NWC 2 techniques.

Since Gershwin is still in copyright, it will not be posted on an open forum.

If and when I get to finish it - it might get as far as the newsgroup for personal use- but no further.

General Discussion / Re: Triplets and invisible notes
David,

Looking at the print preview for your examples, I do not believe any of them cure the point Rick is making (or at least the point I think he is making).

The triplet marking with the line still is shown covering the items that are not seen .  So in the print preview you see the line over the place of the invisible note.

If you don't want to see the note - why would you want to see the line ?

There should be some way of being able to control the line and make it invisible if you want.

Just to be clear - I wasn't suggesting moving the NWC program files only the nwc music (data) files.
And at that - making the change after the install !
1784
General Discussion / Re: Latest update to NWC2
Tony

Leave NWC versions 1 and 2 eactly where they are.

Make a directory on your D Drive for all of your NoteWorthy Files. In fact, perhaps make 2 - One for your your version 1 files and one for your version 2 files.

Then

From NWC 2

Tools Options Folders  ---   Double click Song Files and then enter the full path to your NWC 2 directory on your D Drive.

From NWC 1   do the same except put the path to the version 1 files.

Having done that - close NWC and re-open.  If you now go to open a file - you will probably see no files at all in the directory. This proves that your change has worked.

Now from My Computer, move all your nwc files from your F drive to your D drive folders.

As long as you have the folders defined, then all of the upgrades will leave the folder definitions where they are and you should be OK to leave your NWC files on your D Drive no matter how many upgrades you go through. (I have a similar set up here so that all my nwc files are on a data drive which is more frequently backed up)

Tony - email me for more help if you want to.

General Discussion / Re: Latest update to NWC2
Tony,

It sounds like something has gone awry on your machine. Re-installing NWC (version 1) probably wouldn't fix this.

What I suggest you do if you have your NWC version 1.75 disk, is to install NWC 2 as if you were a new user.  That is, armed with your 1.75 disk, go to the beta enrollment area and redownload a complete NWC2.   https://www.noteworthysoftware.com/nwc2upg/

If you do this, it will be as if you are installing NWC2 from new and you will get the latest version.

Whatever has gone wrong on your machine should be cured by this.

No - it doesn't
What you should realise is that what you see in the editor is NOT what is printed out when you press print.
The editor is not WYSIWYG.

To see how it looks when you print, press the print preview icon. That's the icon that looks like a sheet of paper with a magnifying glass in front.

When you use the force system break - it doesn't change the appearance in the editor - but it tells the print preview to force a return at that point.  So if in the print preview, you see that the first page has 5 measures in the first system, but you actually only want four, then by using the force system break on the very top barline inbetween measures 4 and 5, then you can force a break at that point.

General Discussion / Re: Very small problem with grace notes
Aren't grace notes supposed to be to the right of the bar line, even if the main note is the first note of the bar?
All of the music that I have at hand has grace notes to the right of the bar line.

Well the fact is that there are instances where grace note sequences carry on over the bar line. NWC version 1 supports this and so for backwards compatibility, it should be allowed.

The difficulty is also, that with the current functionality, we are using what we call grace notes for :
appogiacatura, acciacatura, cue notes, cadenzas, ad liberandums (liberanda ?), spread chords, small notes, trills and assorted musical decorations and probably more that I haven't remembered.

General Discussion / Very small problem with grace notes
A very small problem - but I haven't found a way round it and it doesn't happen in 1.75.

I am unable to slur grace notes across a bar line. The slur stops dead at the bar line and no matter what you do, you cannot encourage it to go beyond.

General Discussion / Re: Wish List - common tempo changes and note sound on click
Well you can do both of them in a roundabout way.

1.
NWC2 has the ability to sound the note on entry.  So if yours doesn't, then go to Tools / Options / Midi /     and check "Play notes on entry".
Then if you want to hear a note that is already on the stave - place the cursor next to it (at the same pitch) and press enter. (OK so you will need to delete the note afterwards - but hey ! )
2.
Change the Tempo Globally by x%
This would assume that all of your tempo changes are on one staff and not scattered on different staves.
If this is the case then you can use Andrew Purdam's Global change user tool.
The command would be php global_mod.php Tempo Tempo*=0.6 to change the tempo down to 60 % of its previous value.
You would of course need to do a complementary instruction to change all of the Tempo settings back.

General Discussion / Re: WINDOWS VISTA
  • Windows Defender is known to not protect against around 30% of known spyware
  • Windows Defender breaks some m$ products

I've never found Windows Defender good for anything - a waste of disk space, a waste of memory, a waste of CPU.

A far better product is (IMHO) Spyware Doctor although it's priority does need to be forced to "below normal" to stop it taking over every bit of CPU power.

General Discussion / Lyric Flow
I've Long had a problem with Lyric flow in NWC version 1 and It would be good if something could be done about it in version 2.
NWC highlights the lyrics (as it does the notes) as it plays.

When you have a master repeat, with a first time bar - the lyric flow correctly goes to the second line. However, when it gets to the second time bar, coming out of the repeat - the highlighting flow incorrectly stays on the second lyric line and does not revert to the first line lyrics as it should.

No big shakes - but off putting in you are rehearsing and the highlight goes to the wrong place.

General Discussion / Re: New Signature
Here's something really weird.

If I go directly to the picture's URL
http://joshers2004.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/josh_sketch.gif
in a session that's not connected with this forum, then Josh's picture displays in IE (latest version)
When I have looked at that and then come back here, then all the images (except for one of Rob's) display properly. That is, I get Josh's drawing - not the "Hosted by" Drawing.

If I then close down the forum Explorer page and start up again, All pictures are back to "Hosted by....."

Strange.
