General Discussion / Re: Converting NWC to MP3 or WMP
Lawrie,

I appreciate the point about output in .wav form. it may be important. However, I believe that it is possible to change the output format with Ripvinyl; perhaps a more expert  view than mine could check this..

General Discussion / Re: Converting NWC to MP3 or WMP
Lawrie,
The reason why I recommended Ripvinyl is because it is much more limited than Audacity. For beginners this is a useful feature.  There is very little in RipVinyl which you can select or alter and therefore less chance of a making a mistake!  It is for that reason that I use it for simple conversion tasks. It is not free but very inexpensive.- $10.95 or £5.95 in UK

I too am hopeless at intricate solutions. I use a little program called RipVinyl. which is quite inexpensive, and I find it very easy to use. It produces a copy, for me, in .wav form, which can be played by ordinary CD players  Have a look at www.ripvinyl.com  T

General Discussion / Re: printing
My printer is a cheap CANON Pixma 1600. It allows me to print individual pages or to print odd or even pages and to print in booklet from ( although as this is limited to a folded A4 sheet it is not as usefu las it could be) Does your printer not offer similar choices?

General Discussion / Greetings
The forums ( fora?) have gone very quiet!  May I take the opportunity to wish all Noteworthy users, of every race and creed, the best of things at this happy season and for 2007?

General Discussion / Re: Customs & Excise duty
I had the same problem some time ago.  It would appear that British Customs at random seek out packages and impose duty on them. The British Post Office then delivers the package with a request to pay the Duty, PLUS a Post Office charge for handling and administration.  When I attempted to query this I was quoted official documentation justifying the charges.
In these circumstances one is almost unable to avoid either paying or losing the package which ypu have paid for.
It is extremely difficult to obtain from the relevant authoriies a simple ex[lanatyion of the rules. .

General Discussion / Re: Accessing Notewothy software.com
Yes, I re-started several times over a period of days before it came good.  I am not too sure how  my various Internet security programs re-act to attempted internet connections. Curious things have happened before with other programs.

General Discussion / Re: Accessing Notewothy software.com
Richard,

I click on the Help tab, then on the "access Noteworthy Software.com" and this brings up the message about not having a program associated with it - unfortunately I cannot copy the actual message off the screen.
When I press OK for this message I get a reply "First try failed probably due to a system set-up problem with your default browser. Now trying a different approach."
After waiting some time with no action I prss the Ol for this message
This results in a Microsoft Internet Explorer  window with the message " cannot find '\\http:\\www.noteworthysoftware.com\nwc2.php  make sure the path or Internet address is correct"
At this point I am completely lost as to what action to take! It looks to me that the .php is at the Noteworthy end of things?

General Discussion / Accessing Notewothy software.com
Suddenly, if I open the Help file in NWC2 and look for Access Noteworthy Software I am informed that the file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. It tells me to create an association in the  Folder Options in  Control panel. In Folder Options there are listed NWC files and NWC Itree files.  I have NWC to open with NWC2, and NWCItree opens with Wordpad.
What more should I be doing
Where is the .php file that seems to be missing?
Why is this happening now after the latest update to NWC2?

Version 1.75 Discussion / NWCV15 has gone missing
When I open up NWC and select a song the staves appear but no notes or symbols. Looking in Wondows>Fonts the folder NWCV15  appears to be empty.   I looked into the original Noteworthy CD and recopied the NWCV15 folder into the Wondows Fonts folder with no different result and when I open the NWCV15 folder in the Noteworthy disc I again get a blank screen.

Wat is going on?

General Discussion / Re: bak files.
Richard,

You cracked it!   although I had "show hidden files and folders" as I always do I had not thought to look whether the 'file extensions' was checked.

Many thanks to all of
you for your help.  A great community.

General Discussion / Re: bak files.
Richard,

I seem to have a gremlin in my PC!

If I show my music files in the View>List option  the files are not identified except by a slightly different icon,  but if I let the cursor rest on a file a box appears which shows it as, for example, a BAK file.  If I select the View>Tiles option the file is clearly shown as a BAK file.  But whichever I choose :-
I select the file and it is highlighted
I press F2 and a box appears round the file name
I press the right arrow and the highlighting disappears,  but the box remains
HOWEVER  the box contains the file name only - it does not include the file extension.  I can only delete the file name.

General Discussion / Re: bak files.
Gentlemen,
You have all been so helpful, I am reluctant to confess failure.
I have Windows XP Home and for whatever reason I do not have a button anywhere which goes to Windows Explorer - Internet Explorer, yes. - Windows Explorer, no.
If I go to My Computer>  Local Drive C > My Documents  > My Music,  and click on the BAK file the name highlights. If I double click on this  it goes to Noteworthy and tells me the file is not recognised  If I press F2, in the window on the left-hand side I read "Details  ****** BAK file  Date modified etc."  I cannot change anything in this
box.

General Discussion / Re: Good Bye To All
Keith,
I am a bit older - 84 in a few weeks time - and I am neither a good player nor particularly knowledgable on music. But with NWC I can copy and alter scores and paly them - without mistakes and on the instrument(s) I fancy!

General Discussion / Re: Sound card recommendation
Although some critics are scornful of the item, I purchased a modestly priced  Creative  Audigy 7 sound card and found it to be good enough for most purposes.  Unless you play back through a HiFi amplifier system you are not likely to detect much difference between any good brand sound cards.  The Audigy allows me to download various add-on sound fonts, such as organ fonts, which give me much better results than the standard set up.

General Discussion / Re: A very cheeky question...
Before purchasing Noteworthy, I tested on behalf of a friend, around 12 packages which claimed to do music notation, ranging from the very cheap to the incredibly expensive. Noteworthy stood out from the others by reason of its intuitive ease of use and its value for money.  It has its little problems  but none are critical for most users
Go for it!

General Discussion / Re: Too many staves
If you have a good version of Soundblaster you have the option of downloading a new Sound Font into your sound card and there are many SoundFonts of good quality available. You can select the sound font you use

General Discussion / Re: Help for non-composer users
My maxim has been to interest myself in as many different kinds of activity as possible, having regard to the fact that my reduced physical fitness means that some kinds of energetic pursuit are not on!
Music notation with NWC also allows me to "play" music that would otherwise be beyond me. With a good pipe organ sound font I can play Widor's Toccata without a single mistake!  Notating the music is equivalent to a few hour's practise on a real instrument.

General Discussion / Re: Help for non-composer users
Sooz,

If you can play the music through your PC's speakers, then making a 'wav' file of the music should be easy. You save the 'wav' file somewhere on your PC and then copy it on to a blank audio CD. This will then play back through the majority of CD players.
There are several ways of making that 'wav' file as has already been said. Personally, I use a program called RipVinyl (www.ripvinyl.com) which you have to purchase, but at a very low cost. Buyng it is instantaneous, all done over the Internet.  I use it because for me it is the easiest to use and at 83 years of age that is important! It will make a 'wav'  recording of whatever you are hearing on your PC at the time.
Copying the 'wav'  file on to a CD can be done in numerous ways. You may find that your PC operating system already allows for this or you may use one of the many CD "burner" programs.

Tips & Tricks / Re: Making MP3s of NoteWorthy compositions (and audio CDS if you have a burner)
We all have our favourite ways of making audio discs from various sound sources.
I have no commercial interest but I use a very inexpensive program RipVinyl which creates a wav file from any sound source passing through my PC to the speakers. I use the Creative mixer to select a sound source. As the music or other sound plays you can see the recording level and if necessary adjust to avoid distortion or adjust left to right balance. When the playing has finished you have a wav file which can be directly copied to a blank audio CD using any of the many copying systems available.  You can delete the wav file afterwards if you wish or if you want to re-record with altered settings.
The RipVinyl program is very easy to use. (which is why I use it!)

Instrument Trees / new itrees
I have aparticular interest in organ music and have downloaded several organ sound fonts. and installed them in  my Audigy sound card.
Although the Audigy Sound Font Bank Manager displays the contents of each sound font with in this case the Stop name for each file, I have not yet found an easy way of automatically
copying these lists into the form required to construct an itree ( or a NWCPatch for the original Noteworthy)  In the case of Stefan's Cathedral Organ font this would  involve a considerable amount of tedious manual copying.
It occurred to me that others may wish to take advantage of my efforts.  I have itrees now for
jeux ( available already through the site)
Stefan's Cathedral Organ( "" "" )
jeux d'orgues
jeux d'orgues2
english organ v102
cinema organ v102

I now can change my score size; thank you.

General Discussion / Score Size
On my NWC program adjustment of the printing size for getting a neat printed score involved opening the Tools>Options window and adjusting " Staff Size (in points) "
Alas, in NWC2 , I have not yet worked put how to do this. It is almost certainly something quite simple, but----.

General Discussion / Re: Human Voices
Lawrie.
Good day to you

I have been remiss in  not looking to see if I had any pm's so have just read yours and will be acting on it. Having downloaded Karl Wittenburg's 'My_Own 1.2' font., I think that his 'Real Voice' may be capable of doing what I want  but there is still scope for a better one!

General Discussion / Re: Human Voices
Richard,

Many thanks for your advice; I have now downloaded the font and am off to try it out.
The Music Contest site was quite frustrating; whilst informing me that I was registered, it refused to recognise any combinations of user name and password that I might have used, and would not let me make a new registration, but the site has no means whatsoever of  contacting anyone to sort it out!

General Discussion / Re: Human Voices
Thanks, Laurie, for your usual prompt help.
Follwing up your lead I eventually tracked down the font you mentioned - with a few dead ends on the way. Interestingly Hammersounds had a font of bass voices; there were three reviews, all of which soundly trashed it!
But the font I am looking for is

My Own 1.2
Mar-20-2004
23M sfpack, 48M sf2"
by Karl Wittenburg

Unfortunately try as I might I cannot get it to download

General Discussion / Human Voices
There are a number of synthetic simulations of the human voice in various sound fonts - Chorus Ooh's for example - but none of them sound realistic to me. Is there some font somewhere which can be used to provide good SATB for replay of things like Messiah choruses?

General Discussion / Re: Problems with NTWPATCH
Lawrie,

Many thanks for your, as usual, helpful reply.  I now have all the stops for the three organ fonts I have installed, jeux d'orgues, jeux 1.4 and Stefan's Cathedral Pipe Organ, displaying correctly in the Noteworthy 1 and 2 Instrument windows.
Having congratulated myself on this, I found to my horror that even when selected, all I got was the standard piano sound. I now have to find out why, as SB Live Synth A [E800] is the place where the sound fonts are stroed and is the selected Midi device in NWC

General Discussion / Problems with NTWPATCH
I have recently had a major overhaul of my PC and re-installed NWC and NWC2. I use a Soundblaster Live sound card. As part of the re-installation I am adding some organ sound fonts with the Creative Audio system. I have created an addition to the NTWPATCH for the "jeuxdorgues" sound font in this form:-

[jeuxdorgues1]
Grand plein jeu=
G.P.jeu + Anches=
Plein jeu=
Grand jeu=
Cornet (II)=
Nazard=
Gambe douce (II)=
Principaux=
Cromone=
Fonds=
Fonds doux=
Voix humaine=

and the jeuxdorgues is added to the list at the head of the patch.

However when I open the Instrument window in NWC and select the 'jeudorgues', the window shows no Stop names but only numbers in the form [1] For the native Instrument lists the names are shown as in the NTWPATCH.

It all worked perfectly well previously!

Any comments, please?

General Discussion / Re: A Sound Problem
Just to add to Lawrie's reply, you may find that your amplifier has alternative inputs on the back. like Tape In or Aux or Phono. Some of these work better than others, but Aux is usually a safe bet for connecting to your PC

General Discussion / Partial layering
I frequently find that I need to provide a layer for a relatively small part of a piece where the standard notation causes problems. is it possible to provide a layered staff for, say bars 25-22 only, or is this asking too much of the program?
