General Discussion / My dream is finally fulfilled with NWC2!
Okay, perhaps my dreams are a bit small...

But I just upgraded my desktop system to a Dell XPS 8900, and was finally able to play Tina Billett's scores without hangs or errors!  This with one of the best soundfonts that I have ever used for orchestration (I hate to say I paid for a soundfont that is pathetic compared to this).  In fact, I couldn't find a score that wouldn't play!

The new 24" display is also great, providing that extra horizontal space I always wished for.

Here is a tip to get the results I did...quite simple, actually:

1.  Get CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth:  http://coolsoft.altervista.org.  This eliminates the need for the troublesome and inefficient MIDI loopback utilities that seem to get bogged down and suffer overloading issues.  Instead, this tool is a MIDI device that can be accessed directly by the Windows MIDI mapper as a device.

2.  Download the Timbres of Heaven soundfont:  http://midkar.com/soundfonts/coolsoft.html.  In fact, this page is a great tutorial for installing it all.

I still keep VSTSynthFont64.dll around for soundfont rendering from within the VST realm, but only with products such as PG Music's Band-In-A-Box or Realband, where it is advantageous to have both MIDI device and VST options available (BIAB requires VST for MP3 generation...).

Now, to realize a few more dreams in creating instead of just playing around!

General Discussion / Re: Installing soundfonts
Thanks for the warm welcome, John!

Actually, I have been a user of NoteWorthy from way back...at least ten years.  I used to be quite active on these forums as well.  I suppose they changed the registration or something while I was away.

It's like what PG Music did to their forum system.  I entered the new millennium with a thousand posts to my credit, only to have the number reset back to zero!

It's good to know that there are users of both products that realize that both products are made for each other!

General Discussion / Re: Upgrade Issues Running Version 2.24
I am a registered user of Update 2 (purchasing the upgrade from 1.75 back when version 2 was first announced), and as stated, have successfully upgraded each time (downloading at least eight upgrade packages) all the way up to version 2.24.  It is only now, for some reason, that NoteWorthy.com is requiring that I re-register for the next update.

I don't mind doing so, but since my high-bandwidth Internet connection is not near where I keep the software, I'll have to do some legwork (brainwork? ;) ).

Also, beware that using soundfonts in any Creative X-FI laptop product is NOT supported.

If you have the older Audigy 2 ZS Laptop card like I have, you would be rather out of luck as well since Creative's drivers did not work much at all with MIDI.  Fortunately, "Daniel," whoever he might be (thank you, kind sir), produced a kludged-up version of drivers that magically transformed all of the features of this card from NOT WORKING, to WOW!  I now can play the 1812 Overture with amazing polyphony and within acceptable volume ranges completely unavailable using the latest Creative drivers.  Unfortunately, Creative cracked down on Daniel and forced him underground.  I'm sure you can still find the drivers out there someplace.  This becomes the most effective and outstanding way of producing great sounds with your laptop!

General Discussion / Upgrade Issues Running Version 2.24
I have received notification upon running NoteWorthy that there is an update available for version 2.24; however, when I attempt to fetch the upgrade as I have done so many times before, I get the registration screen asking for all of my CD label information, etc.

Being that I never have the installation CD with me when I am attempting to use the program, I seriously wonder if I will ever be able to keep up with the upgrades!

Is this supposed to happen like this?  Are we really required to re-register?  Or did I wipe something out of my system registry (running XP Pro)?

Thanks for the ideas!
