General Discussion / Audit Bar Lines
Is there a tool (user or native) which will audit measures and show any measure which does not have the proper number of beats matching the time signature, without actually moving the bar lines?
2
General Discussion / Text spanning multiple notes tool?
I am reproducing some music with two items which I am reproducing with a little hassle.  One is an octave shift, shown by text over a span of notes which looks like an 8 followed by a span of raised dots, ending with a downward turn. Between the 8 and the colon I used a character I found near the bottom of the font, as in:
 8¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨:
The other is a long string of spaced hyphens, (following a cresc.) as:
cresc. -   -   -   -   -   -   -
I am using an ordinary text object, but adjusting the span of the center text is trial and error. I was thinking of a user tool, similar to "hairpin" which would allow the user to specify an optional opening text, a repeated center text, and an optional closing text. It could either have a "note span" property similar to hairpin, or, perhaps easier to use, an additional instance to end the repeating text. It probably needs the hairpin properties of "Start Offset X" and "End Offset X", as well as some of the Text properties (Font, etc.). It should operate over multiple lines. Is there any interest?

I have some programing experience (IBM Assembler, BASIC, COBOL) but am not familiar with Lua or the interface to NWC.
3
General Discussion / Gaps
I think this may not be supported, but I'll ask anyway. I have a score with two non-layered staves. One is a one line percussion staff. Below it is a "cue" staff. Where there is no need for cues, that staff is collapsed. If there is a need for cue notes for only half a staff, I'd like to "gap" the cue staff, and leave half of it not printed. I can gap the second staff, while showing the entire first staff, but the space on the first staff corresponding to the second staff gap will not accept any notes. In the attached, the second line does what I want, because the second staff is incomplete. Can I make the first line also do that?

General Discussion / Mid Export
When I save a .nwc file, the Date modified is correct. I then exported that piece to midi. The modified date for the .mid file was 4/14/2008 4:10 PM. I exported again. and the Date modified was 4/14/2008 4:30 PM. Can anyone explain this?

General Discussion / Cue notes below multi-measure rests
I'm using the workaround from this topic
https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=8347.msg58677#msg58677
to try and post some cues for the percussionist to know where he is during long rests. I would like the cues to be directly under the start of the multi-measure rest. In the attached, I try the cues both before and after the rests, but I cannot get the cues under the rests. I also tried spacers in measures 3-8. Is it possible?

General Discussion / Space for second page title
I should be able to figure this out, but I can't seem to do it easily. Piece has no lyrics. I am using PageTxtMaestro and multiple PgTxts as the first items in the file to create title information. I have the Staff Upper and Lower Boundaries set to 38 and 5 to allow room for the title lines. In the second measure I have a Boundary Change with Set new boundary offset set to 15 and 5 for the staff lines after the first. But this is too close to the top on the second page. I could add two additional Boundary Changes for the top and other staves on the second page, but I would have to figure out exactly where in the score to add them. And this would get very tedious for a ten-page work. Is there one object or setting to leave extra space at the top of every page?
7
General Discussion / Script Running?
This is probably not related to Noteworthy, but I don't know where else to ask, and the nwc forum was the only thing running, and everyone on this forum is so smart!. For browsers, I have MS Edge and Google Chrome installed. The only tab open in Edge was this forum. Chrome had nothing open. I got the attached pop-up (again). Do you think I have some kind of malware running?

General Discussion / Placing objects at left edge of staff
I tried to research this before posting a question, but I couldn't find anything which worked. 1. I have a bar with "force system break" set. Immediately following it I place text. I want the text to align with the left edge of the staff. I thought that Properties: Justification: Left, and Alignment/Placement: As Staff Signature would do that, but it doesn't seem to. I can get what I want with trial and error using center or right justification and spaces inserted before or after the text, but that is a lot of work. 2. With a single staff, how do I put a bar line at the beginning of each printed staff?
11
General Discussion / Beaming
In NWC, is it possible to have, for example, eight sixteenth notes (stem up) beamed with the top beam across all eight notes, and the lower beam stopping between notes 4 and 5? If not, is there a hack to do it?
12
General Discussion / Digital Whiteout
I've searched the forum for "Digital Whiteout" and I find many references to it, but I haven't figured out how to select "White" as a color. It seems like the color choices are fixed, and white is not one of them. How do I make text white?
14
General Discussion / Note color question
I am trying to change the color of some beamed notes. When I select the notes and change the color, the note heads, stems and accents change to the new color, but the beams, slurs and leger lines do not. I can then change the note heads to a different color (observation only; I don't actually want to do that.) I would, however, like to know if it is possible to change the beam and slur color. I guess I don't care about the leger line color, since I'm not changing the staff color.
15
General Discussion / Staff Line Weight
I've been fooling around with trying to match an 18th century music engraving. The staff line thickness is about 20% of the distance from top of a line to top of the next line. Is it possible to make the lines of the nwc staff heavier without changing the line spacing?  I also need to make the repeat bars with two heavy bars. I think I can simulate that by adding a normal bar and a zero width  spacer. I'm also trying to create an nwc font to match the clef. time signature numbers and the eight note (non-beamed) flag, which is a simple diagonal line. I am also using some of the "new" objects. For instance, the original music had stem up and stem down eight notes (more than an octave apart) with the beam between them. The beam object worked great for that.
16
General Discussion / Muted notes
In attempting to create a trill, I put in the trilled note and muted it. Then I followed it with the sounding notes with Visibility: Never. Unfortunately, the muted note still takes up time, as if it were a rest. Why would one want a muted note to take up time? Is it possible to show the muted note without taking up any time? I don't think there is an appropriate character to insert it as text. I know I could use an invisible sounding staff and a muted visible staff (I've done it often), but that seems like a lot of work for one note.
17
General Discussion / Title vertical position
How is the title positioned on the page? Is room reserved for Author, Copyright, etc. even if those fields are empty? I have the Staff Upper Boundary set to 5, which is the minimum for a five-line staff. There is still over 1/2 inch between the title and the top staff. Is there any way to reduce this, other than disable the title and print it as text, which would be a pain?
18
General Discussion / Viwer Mute List
I sent a choir member some .nwc files and a link to the Viewer download. He emailed me that the Mute List is disabled. He thinks it may be a function of his sound driver. Is that possible? He says he has 7 channel sound. How does stereo map to 7 channel? I told him that I think the mute list is a function of the Viewer, and should not be affected by his system.
19
General Discussion / Dot collisions in layered staves
What are the workarounds for avoiding dot collisions in layered staves? (And, to open a can of worms: should there be a note property for extra dot spacing? Or to move a dot to a different space?)

General Discussion / Move 2.5 to new computer
When 2.0 was in preview, I paid the $15 for the 1.75b CD. Since then I have installed all the upgrades to 2.5 on my old computer. That computer died, and I am trying to install 2.5 on the new computer. I successfully installed 1.75b, but cannot figure out how to get to 2.5 without paying another $15. (It would be worth another $15, if that is my only option.) I searched the forums for upgrade info but, while most of the links still work, they don't do what the forum entry says they should do.

I found this post,
The free upgrade to NWC2 requires that you have both the NWC 1.75 CD in hand, as well as the registration label. You can use these materials to upgrade to NWC2 for free, starting at:

https://www.noteworthysoftware.com/nwc2upg/
but the link no longer works.

On another note, I found an old post of mine at https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=4903.msg30651#msg30651. I tried to make this post a reply to that one, but reply didn't seem to be an option. Do threads get "closed/locked" after a certain time?

General Discussion / Bug -- slur over hidden note
I think I found a bug. When a slur spans a hidden note at the beginning of a measure, and that measure begins on a new line, the slur disappears.

General Discussion / Firstb note tie recipient?

General Discussion / Triplet same-note chords
I am trying to print a 2-part staff with a triplet. Why can I create notes as same-note chords, but when they are triplitized, the notes become separate?
24
General Discussion / Triplet Layering Issue
I'm still trying work-arounds to get triplets to look like I want. I thought I had what I wanted; it looked good in Viewer Mode. But in print Preview (and when printed), the layered triplet brackets do not line up. Is this a bug? (BTW, I have a third layer to add the downward stem to the first note.) This is for printing only. See my next post for why I cannot use chords. Also, was there a way with 2.5 to control triplet brackets (head vs. stem, distance from note,  etc.) or was that my imagination, or an unfulfilled wish?
25
General Discussion / Automatic Beam Question
The following has not yet been beamed. When you select Automatic Beam, the two sixteenths at the start of the second strain do not beam. Is that because it is not a full measure? Using V2.5.2.

General Discussion / Forum Profiles
As I follow these forums (fora?) I sometimes get curious about where some of the contributers live. I've noticed that many regular contributers have never filled out their location on their profile. I only recently added mine, even though I've been a minor contributer for years. So I'm hoping everyone who sees this (unless you have a strong reason to remain anonymous) to update your profile with your location. (Just for my own curiousity.)

General Discussion / FLow direction question
I have a song with 3 verses and a refrain. I want it to play V1, V2, R, V3, R. The attached file plays V1, V2, R, V3, R, V3. Can someone please explain why V3 plays again. After V1, V2, R the final repeat returns to the beginning (Section Repeat Open), the third ending is taken as expected. When it gets to the final repeat the second time, why doesn't it stop? Do I need to use a DC or DS? The way I have it sems more intuitive.

Edit. changed attachment. Actually plays as I said, except thet the second V3 stops before either ending.

General Discussion / Layering not available?
I'm sure this is something easy. I had an existing SATB piece with 4 separate staves. I added a fifth staff for S2, moved it below the first staff, went to the first staff, and tried to layer it, but "Layer with next staff" is greyed out. Why would that be?

General Discussion / Chords Stem Direction
I had a measure on a very old piece which may have been created in V1. I just opened it in V2 and wanted to change the stem direction. It seems to be impossible. If I copy the measure into a text editor and change the "Down" to "Up" and paste it back and it turns into text. And I can't seem to create it from scratch with the stem either way. I hate to use layering for only one measure.
This one has the wrong stem direction:
Code: [Select · Download]
|Chord|Dur:Half,Dotted,Slur|Pos:-3o|Opts:Stem=Down,ArticulationsOnStem|Dur2:Whole|Pos2:-2o^|Color:0|Visibility:Default
This one seems to paste as text:
Code: [Select · Download]
|Chord|Dur:Half,Dotted,Slur|Pos:-3o|Opts:Stem=Up,ArticulationsOnStem|Dur2:Whole|Pos2:-2o^|Color:0|Visibility:Default

User Tools / Tool for layering??
I have been transcribing about 6 songs a year for about 5 years for an annual choir (for rehearsal). I generally want it to look like the original music, which is often 2 staves, one with soprano and alto, one with tenor and bass. I use layering so I can make a version with one part on one channel, the other parts in the other. I would like to see a user tool to help with matching stem lengths between the layered staves. I've been doing it manually, which is a lot of work when the song has many eigth notes. Although I make my living programming, I am not familier with php. It seems that the "user tool" interface can only deal with one staff at a time. Is that correct? I also considered using the .nwctxt file, and running it through some kind of a program or macro to analyze it and create a new  modified file.
It would have to compare corresponding notes in a pair of staves. If the stems were in the same direction (which may be set, or defaulted) it would make the adjust the stem length of one so the stem ends were in allignment. This is most important for eight notes or shorter, but would not hurt for other note values. It would also set the slur and tie directions for the upper note to upward, and the lower note to downward, unless the notes were tha same pitch. I'm sure there would be other things it could do, but that is what I would start with.
Right now I need more help with the user interface: how do I get the needed elements to somewhere they can be parsed and edited. Do the "tool gurus" think this is even possible? If you think it's possible, I wouldn't mind someone pointing me to a template, or anything else which might help me get started.
