Tips & Tricks / Courtesy Accidentals
Courtesy  accidentals can be inserted as text entries. I use those found  in Petrucci.ttf which was installed when I down-loaded the free Finale demonstration program. You can also use Bach.ttf which has both parentheses and accidentals.

General Discussion / Problems with midi import
What am doing  wrong? The midi files I am successfully importing won't let me make many changes. I can't change rhythm, note values, slurs, articulations, accidentals, time signature, insert text, etc. I can move notes up and down, delete works; control-z does not work. I am using NWC2, and importing midi files created by me in NWC2, and midi files sent to me by a Finale user.

Tips & Tricks / Extend the horizontal line in special endings - revised
[/font]This is one way to extend the horizontal line in special endings using staff layering. This has been revised to use only 2 staves.

Staff 1 is for music; shows measure numbers. Hide special endings.

Staff 2: Omit bar lines within the first and second endings; hide the rests in special endings. Special endings visibility is set to always.

Staff 2 can be used for staff layering as needed.

General Discussion / Force page break (but with bug)
I have posted a way to force a new page for printing in the tips section, but there seems to be a bug with measure numbering. The number of the measure before the break appears at the beginning of what should be an empty staff.

Tips & Tricks / How to force page turns for printing parts (but with gnat sized bug)
User Tip: To Force page turn, insert clef and key signature with visibility never at end of bar before page turn; force system break and exclude from bar count; insert whole rest with visibility never; insert new bar with visibility never and force system break; insert clef and key signature with default visibility.

This leaves an empty staff at the bottom of the page which players will ignore, or which can be used for text instructions or messages to the players.

The wrong measure number that appears at the beginning of the the empty staff appears to be a bug.

General Discussion / Audigy 2 and sound fonts
I just upgraded(?) my soundblasterlive card with an Audigy 2. I can't figure out how to manage sound fonts with the new card. Any help?

Thanks,
Carl

General Discussion / Sex, Drugs, and Polka
[flash=200,200][/flash]

The filter at the public library in Olathe, Kansas just banned my piece, The Blue Diamond Polka, for being pornographic.

General Discussion / More flow control problems
I've done two versions of this piece. The one for piano works well. This one for horn quartet doesn't, and I can't find the problem.

General Discussion / Sound font problem
As you may know, I am a carillonneur and publisher of music for carillon. I have a SoundblasterLiive card, so I recently replaced the tubular bells ln General Midi  with carillon.sf2, a font created from wav files of each of the bells in the carillon in Gand (Ghent), Belgium. Some of the Noteworthy songs play correctly, others insist on the old tubular bells. As far as I can tell, all the settings are the same. If I copy the song to a new file, the problem is solved. What is happening?

General Discussion / Multi-bar rests old style
Older engravings show each whole rest in multi-bar rests. This is an advantage if horizontal space needs to be conserved. I have used NoteRow.ttf for User Font 1. I don't know where I got it, but it probably came with another program. I will send it to anyone who needs it. Perhaps the relevant glyph could be incorporated into another font that everyone has.

General Discussion / Request for user creation - cues
Please, would someone make a note font with note heads scaled at 60%? Since we can control stem length , that is all that is needed to give us cues.

Until then, I'm using the diamond heads for cues.

General Discussion / Cues revised
Cues« on: 2005-12-10 04:57 am »

When using an inkjet black printer, cues can be made by using a color other than black for the desired passage. The result is a light gray which is easily recognized as a cue, particularly when the name of the instrument actually playing is inserted. Use staff layering to show the rests. Set layered staff color the same as the cue notes to get beams to match the notes

General Discussion / Large Orchestra Template
For those who want to write for lots of people playing at the same time, this is a starting point. I'm sure that some improverments will be suggested.

General Discussion / Problem wth slur
The slur into measure 7 from the previous line does not show. If you force a system break before the final beat of the measure, the slur shows, but the measure number is attached to the partial measure.
