General Discussion / Uneven Measures With Same Total Timing Values
I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I could not find any references.  I cannot get the same measure length with this scenaro where the total time values are equal in each measure.  I have NWC2 Ver 2.23

The same problem occurs in NWC Ver 1.75c

I know this can be accomplished with layering, but I don't believe this should be the only workaround.

Hi Lawrie,

The problem is that you have a "Text Expression" in the 11th line of your code.

If you block the whole G note you will see it.  Just delete after blocking and you will see the spacing is now equal.  See below.

A shortcut to Windows Expore is accomplished by clicking on the "Windows" (Windows emblem) key between the left side Ctrl & Alt keys, then the "E" key.

I registered back in 2004 and re-registered again today, but have not been able to access the site.  I have an Account Name and Password.  My internet provider is AOL.  I get a message "Sorry, you are not allowed to access this area".  Any ideas?

Rick, if you set the Performance Style to Legato, measures 2 and 3 sound identical.  However, in measure 1, the duration of the e flat is governed by the eighth note, and will only play for that duration.  When 2 notes of different duration using the same channel are played simultaneously or the short note comes after the longer note in the same measure, the short note wins out and the longer note stops playing.  The only way I found to correct this problem is to mute the short note.  This won't work if you enter one note on top of the other by Ctrl Enter, because you can't mute just one of those notes.  See Below:

If you look at any of my submissions in Scriptorium you will see that many notes are muted for this reason.

Ah, now I see what you mean by comping slashes.  I guess this is used for guitar and jazz works.  This is something I doubt I would ever use, since I’m still stuck in the classical era still.  I like the idea of a “No Stem” button.  Actually, before Eric plays with this problem, I would rather see some improvements elsewhere.  The program is really great as is, but some user friendly convenient features such as a Layering toggle button and a Preview toggle button would be nice instead of going to the drop-down menu.  This is something I use all the time. 

I also think that slurs could be better placed, especially those that are presently at the stem ends.  The way they are placed now looks awful, especially those with articulations.  The slur is rooted in awkward position below the stem and takes up a lot of room between staves.  They should be closer to the note heads like you see in professional printing.  I’ll stop now.

David, I'm not quite sure what you mean by a "comping slash" in conjunction with a headless note.  Could you give me a coded sample?  I think in all situations that starting at "0" and then extending the stem length with positive number and reducing the length with negative number until the stem disappears would be a more user friendly approach to this feature.  I'm not a programer, so I don't know how difficult the would be to code.

Rick is correct, not all stems are born the same length.  This is why I believe that starting at with a default of 0, no matter where the note is located on the staff, then allowing for positive or negative adjustments, would be more user friendly.  Similar to the Staff Position adjustment for Expression Placement.

No, adding a rest will not help because the duration space will apply between the first note and the rest and the note will be placed under the rest not matter how short the rest is in duration.  The two notes are to be played simultaneously.  I've added this to the Wish List, maybe something will come from that, hopefully.

I see what you mean, however, I am doing a piece of some length, and this is the only note that would need layering, and I was trying to avoid that.  I was hoping there was a way to add extra note spacing to the stem down half note the add the whole note by the Ctrl Enter feature, which would not have the extra note spacing characteristic, but that dosen't work.  Maybe something for the Wish List.

There appears to be a problem in the spacing between a whole note and half note occupying the same line.  You'll notice in the Treble Clef the spacing is correct.

It appears that the problem is due to the second note's visibility being set to "Never".  The slur carries over to the second line when the note visibility is set to "Default" or "Always".

Hi Lawrie, highlight 7 on my version of NWC2 is orange.  There is no white option.  I tried moving the rest out of the sight but it will only move +/-15, so that's no help.  I think the solution in the coding, i.e., the timing of the stem up notes should be independent of the stem down notes.  I'm not a programmer so I don't know if this is possible.  I guess I'll stick with the tied stem down quarter notes for this piece.

I am notating a piece with many timing changes throughout and have run into a problem that may be a glitch in coding.  When notating the same staff with stem up and stem down notes of different timing values the length of the bar extends beyond the correct timing of the bar.  The bar has notes of the same values, just in reverse of each other.  See below.

I've run into this problem many times and the only workaround I know that works is to create a hidden staff with the same instrument on a different chanel.  Mute the visible dotted whole note and insert the note you want sustained in the hidden staff.

General Discussion / Glitch in nwc2upd_v2p1z_beta1x00 Update
I just installed the nwc2upd_v2p1z_beta1x00.exe update and opened a choral piece I was working on and found that all the triplets over unbeamed eight notes were gone.  I blocked the 3 notes and clicked on the "Triplet Selected Notes" button and nothing happened.  I then beamed the notes and again clicked on the button and they were tripled.  I then unbeamed the notes and the triplet held.  This is the first time I encountered this problem in NWC2.  How soon to fix this problem?

I agree with David, very nice, but where did you do the tempo changes?  I couldn't find any tempo settings anywhere.
