I checked, and the PHP files in NWC were exactly as required. I also checked that there was exactly one copy of php4ts.dll.
However, I did confirm that the problem is with PHP 5: I removed it, and the problem went away. I don't often use PHP for work, so I'm not that bothered about removing it.
I might try and reproduce the problem later on, but not until sometime after 22nd October, when I take the plunge and reinstall everything under Windows 7 (64-bit). Then I'm sure I'll find all sorts of new problems!
First of all, my apologies for not acknowledging your replies earlier. I posted this question, then completely forgot I'd done it, as I'd finished the score I was editing the hard way, and I haven't had a need to use NWC for a while. So thanks for all your replies.
Secondly, I don't think anyone's come up with the right answer. Maybe it's not PHP 5 after all. I did install the starter kit, and the user tools do show php\php.exe etc. The error I get, time after time, is, hopefully, attached. Anyone any idea whether it's because it's the wrong version of PHP, or do I need to play with the ini files, or what?

I haven't really tried using the user tools previously, but I decided it's about time I tried to do things the easy way, rather than the long, laborious, manual way. The problem is, when I tried to use some of the tools (specifically Andrew Purdam's parts splitter), I got lots of errors (and I mean LOTS!), even though it actually worked in the end. I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is: I have PHP 5 installed on my computer, and Noteworthy picks that in preference to the copy of PHP 3 that installs with the user tools. Now I don't want to uninstall that, as I do use it for work, so I was wondering if you had ever thought about upgrading the toolkit to work with PHP 5? I could do it myself, and will do if you don't already have a PHP 5-compatible version, but there's no point in re-inventing the wheel.
Well it still hasn't turned up for me, either. I'm using XP and IE7 as well. I explicitly downloaded it in my favourites menu, so it appears there, but on the page itself, it still shows as the standard IE logo. I've seen similar issues with other favourite icons. They will just suddenly appear for no apparent reason.
Well, I still get my sharps and naturals mixed up: it don't seem natural (excuse the pun) for sharp to come before natural. On the other hand, I'm sure lots of people have got used to it, so the obvious solution is to allow those of us that don't like the default key mappings to change them.
I did actually write a user tool that copies the selected part of the staff, removes all the notes and leaves the correct amount of rests, plus all the repeats, key changes etc. Unfortunately, before you rush to ask me for it, I started fiddling and broke it again! One day, I'll resurrect it.
It must be possible somehow - I have seen different icons for XML files - they even open different applications. All you need to do is find out how - and I'm sure it involves a) fiddling with the registry, and b) Knowing technical differences between the two file formats (and since they're compressed, it might be awkward).
There was at least one contrary opinion. And here's another. Personally, I don't think it should be possible to edit a post at all, or at the very least, not once anyone has replied to it. Otherwise, it's perfectly possible for some malicious user (mentioning no names!) to change their original post to make the reply seem stupid.
But while we're on the subject of removing things, I think your whinging post should count as a first offence towards getting YOU removed!
