General Discussion / Prefer 1.75
Where can I download 1.75 to use instead of 2.
I prefer it and it is simpler to use for my purposes ie.learning and singing songs.
I don't have to go hunting for things I need.
Also, what's with the new Forum style,
Just making things hard to find..

General Discussion / Re: Mobile App?
Have you tried the Android App " Midi Sheet Music " free app. Not brilliant like NWC, but you can notate with it, and better still import MIDI files made on NWC and play them, ideal for singers learning parts. Been using it on phone and tab for ages.

General Discussion / Re: Chord Fonts
Fonts are a problem for audio, sure, but if you merely want to display, or provide hard copy, why not just print to pdf?

General Discussion / Using NWC song Files on Android Tabs and Phones
This is now possible using free app 'Midi Sheet Music' from Play Store. Just Export NWC to .mid and move to Android device by Bluetooth Email. cable, or whatever.
Open the app and browse to where it is and it will notate with lyrics and play the sound effortlessly.
Haven't researched it thoroughly yet, but certainly, because of midi there are some difficulties with fancy flow instructions etc. Would be good if others can have a go and let everyone know of limitations.
Certainly for plain vocal music learning of parts for practice it works fine.

General Discussion / Re: Choral SATB playback of midi file with words
I have used Melody Assistant for a number of years for helping singers to learn parts. I encode in NWC and save as Midi and import into Melody Assistant. Then Export/Save as an mp3. Works reasonably well, with generally Japanese style pronunciations. You can sort some of these by changing some words to a more phonetic pronunciation. But I call it my "Japanese Choir"

General Discussion / Re: Saving playable music to a CD
Jet Audio Freeware will convert midi to a sound file such as MP3 or WAV that can be burnt to an Audio CD for playing anywhere. Sometimes the sound is slightly different depending on what instruments you have used in your NWC file, but musically it is correct.

General Discussion / Re: Print Layout
You can also space individual bars out by entering a text expression, just several hits on the Space bar, and tick the "Preserve Width" box, between notes. Just cut and paste it along the bars between suitable notes and check "Print Preview" to see when it looks satisfactory for you.

General Discussion / Re: PDF to Music - again
Thanks Rich, that's actually quite impressive. The lyrics are a bit astray, but that's not really the object of the exercise. It means you can get a good 'feel' for a score in a couple of minutes.

General Discussion / Re: PDF to Music - again
Thanks Rich, will attach a page. The trouble is, I have difficulty in hearing a piece of choral music.Don't play keys much, (sax, clari), so I want to hear a new piece before I lash out and buy copies for the chorus. if I'm desperate I do type up a page in NWC to see what I think, and some on-line stores have previews.

General Discussion / PDF to Music - again
Seems this subject hasn't been raised for a while. In the Myriad forums it is apparent that you can convert a pdf that has been made from a music editor eg. NWC which is a"vector" pdf, but you can't scan a pages and convert that because it is a "bitmap" pdf. So the question arises, is it possible to cinvert a "bitmap" pdf to a "vector" pdf?

General Discussion / Re: Piano introduction to choral work
You can make two scores, one with intro for accompanist, and one for SATB but use a text input with -- 8 --  or -- 16 -- or however many bars at  the beginning to indicate intro. Use something like Boxmarks Font to find suitable symbols. Just remember the bar numbers then have to be entered manually as text because they wont match up.

General Discussion / Re: numbering measures on blank score
Probably you could make a score of say 32 bars of whole note rests with barlines in between and then number them as per Rick above but select all and "Never" for show on printed page instead of default.

General Discussion / Help needed for Asus EEE
I want to install NWC on my new Asus EEE 701 mini but OS is in a form of Linux and I'm not very good at this Command line stuff. Can anyone give me a simple blow-by-blow install? 1.75 is fine.

General Discussion / Re: Dotted Ties
What I do is, if there are too many notes, as Warren says, use the undersore to space the lyrics. If there are too many words, just put a dot ( or an undersore) between the words without any spaces to put multiple words on a note. The singers will pick up on the timing.

General Discussion / Re: Printing problem
Have you tried one of the free PDF makers eg PDF Creator, and make it into a PDF and then print it. Just a quick one-off work-around to get a score.

General Discussion / Re: Mouse Wheel Scroll support
G'day gents, this question hs been up before. I can scroll in the editor or Print Preview of 1.75, no probs. Just a basic PS2 mouse with scrollwheel. I use an Aopen driver Ao133op.exe for all my PCs with various mice. The beauty of this driver is that with the third button or click under the scrollwheel, it brings up a little raft of actions, including "close", great for dumping those annoying pop-ups.
The driver is available on Driverguide.com.Hope this helps.

General Discussion / Re: same ol' printing question
There are many workarounds for 1.75 to get two hymns on an A4 page in landscape.
You can copy from print preview and paste to a Word document set up in landscape, two hymns to the page, or using a PDF Printer such as PDF995 and PDF995edit, make a two page PDF document with two NWC files then print "Two to a page" - most printers these days will do that. I have used both these techniques, but what I do for myself now is use an A5 display book and print each file at A5 size and just slip it in the pocket.

General Discussion / Re: What is better with NWC2?
Thanks Lawrie and others, I still haven't found anything that interests me with NWC2, except as what Rob says, print from it to get better stems and slurs.
I am mainly interested in choral work, producing and arranging printed pages, and I can do most of that in NWC1 with my own tricks.
It seems the text editor/iTrees is about sound or making backing tracks.
The lyrics editor in NWC2 is still not worth a cracker either.
I enter all my lyrics externally in Quicknote and then copy and paste to the NWC Lyric editor for entry to the score.

General Discussion / Re: What is better with NWC2?
Thanks guys, I agree that the NWC2 stems and slurs look better but really don't do anything. Most of my work is choir work, and a good print is a good print irrespective of whether it looks different.
Hairpins I can put in with Crescendo font or make the singers do it manually (registers in the brain better).
Not sure what you mean by copying objects.
Note heads for percussion are good, but I don't need that much.
By using NWC1 my singers can use the evaluation program for practice (able to stop /start at any point), but as you say, file can be exported to NWC1.
OK, so where do I find the stuff about editing the file with a text editor, trees and User tools. Maybe I should bone up on that.

General Discussion / What is better with NWC2?
I have used NWC a lot over the years and although having both
1 & 2 , tend to use 1 most of the time.
What are the main advantages of NWC2 and what disadvantages?

General Discussion / Re: NWC Viewer limitation
You know, you can download the free browser plugin npnwcw32 for use with Mozilla Firefox or Opera. Firefox is a free download and will run on the computer as well as Internet Explorer and doesn't have to be the default browser. But if you copy the npnwcw32.dll into the plugin folder you can open NWC files in the browser window and play them. There is also a position slider where you can start from. You can't select the exact bar(measure) but pretty close, then pause - then back etc. Not perfect but better than starting from the beginning again. And Firefox is a big plus anyway as a browser.

General Discussion / Re: Stretching space between notes
You can lengthen the print of a bar by using  Insert Text (X), but instead of characters just insert spaces in the editor and select 'Expression Placement' tab and tick the 'Preserve Width' box. you can do this as much as you like between notes to "stretch"  a bar or bars out to fit a page and together as mentioned before with force break you can organise your format better.

General Discussion / Re: I have a suggestion!!!! (Scary thought isn't it!)
Hmmm! maybe my mouse works so well because I use a fancy driver.
i.e ao133op.exe basically an Aopen driver, but I've used it with all sorts of generic mice. Give it a try! It has all sorts of additional abilities for the third button too, whether it be on the side or under the wheel by clicking the wheel down. It's only about 500k download.

General Discussion / Re: OT: absolute pitch
This "Perfect Pitch" is interesting. So which pitch does someone who has it, remember? A = 440 or what? After all piano tuning is only a compromise - "equal temperament" - isn't it? There are problems with tuning. A cappella singers usually use the 'Just intonation' tuning. Interesting!

General Discussion / Re: Metronome beat
I have a set of Metronome beats I prepared for my mobile phone (Inserted there as midis) in NWC as a zip file. Only trouble. I don't know how to get it to you.

General Discussion / Re: .nwc to .sib, .xml, .abc, .mus ...etc???
Hi tenor1, trouble with PDF to music Pro is that it only converts PDFs that have been made from music notation programs. So really it's not worth a cracker, especially at $199. You might as well use Harmony Assistant from a .mid file from NWC. Gives the same Japanese choir singing.

General Discussion / Re: NWC lyrics in Hebrew?
Hi Amir, This doesn't answer your question, but you can help me. I want to do Havah Nagilah with my group, using the version in a CASA songbook, but don't know the pronunciation of the words. Anyway you can guide me to phonetic pronunciation please.

General Discussion / Re: NWC novice - lyrics placement
Better than Wordpad, Rick, is "Quicknote" freeware. Just has a marker placed on the desktop, you can site the marker anywhere, and any colour, just brush the mouse pointer past it and the Quicknote pops up, fully configurable for Font etc. and then as you said, select all, copy and paste into the NWC Lyric Editor. Esc puts the Qicknote back to sleep, but the text is still there if you need it again. Top little helper!

General Discussion / Re: NWC Viewer limitation
Ole, If the file is for rehearsal purposes, you can cut the main file into pieces at suitable rehearsal figures ( Fig. A, Fig.B etc. or Bars 1-32, 33-64 or wherever a passage changes) with cut and paste techniques, making new files. Zip the whole lot together and send them to your members. When you buy backing CDs for choirs, that is how they come, so you can rehearse section by section. Obviously they still won't be able to do a small section, but it is better than having to run the whole 200 bars each time.

General Discussion / Re: NWC novice - lyrics placement
I have a "Lyric-blank" text file made up of 9 underscores and spaces then figure 10 etc 20 etc 30 etc etc up to 600.
I just copy and paste this into the lyric editor. Then I see my lyrics need to start at, say, 34 (30 is visible + 4 notes). Back to lyric editor, enter lyrics at site 34 and they are spot on first time. Of course when all is done you have to go back and replace each number before the lyrics with an underscore, but all after the required lyrics can be deleted. Beats the eternal guesswork or counting dozens of notes and still making a blue.

General Discussion / Re: Vocaloid - Voice Synthesiser
Hi linlin, yes I've used Harmony Assistant and made learning CDs many times and will continue to. There are limitations. Pronunciation can be tricky. Sometimes you have to change the NWC Lyrics to phonetic ones .
I haven't played arround much with formants etc, there are a lot of places to experiment. Also when you save(Export) the NWC as Midi it does not bring fermatas etc. so if you want a hold you have to change the NWC file by adding extra value notes or rests instead of other breath marks or holds. You also have to Edit the voices and be careful of which Octave they are singing. ie frequently in SATB writing the Tenor is written in treble clef and if you don't put the little 8 - as in Octave down when placing the clefs on the NWC file your Tenor will be singing too high and you must change the octave in the Harmony Assistant Edit.

General Discussion / Re: linked staffs
If you want to play a staff by itself you can use Shift+F5 if the staff is selected. Or you can use the Mute List. Tools /drop down/ Mute list

General Discussion / Re: Out of tune/off-key
If you have transposed a staff, but not changed the MIDI in StaffProperties F2 it will still playback the untransposed pitch. Does this help?
