General Discussion / Re: Have solved Midi problem finally, with upgraded Vista works!!
I finally have my Midi cable with my upgraded DELL Demsion B110  with Vista SOLVED!!!

After testing the Midi cables on my nephew's friend's Casio keyboard with my Dell Demsion B1100 upgraded to Vista it turned out to be the IN/OUT Ports of my Concertmate were not working right.

So for Christmas 2008 I was given a Yamaha YPT-210 Beginner Music keyboard from my sister. It was on sale  I read the reviews it was given GOOD!! and made it my choice to get. I am still reading up on the midi cable use. I will keep the Concertmate990  and use it as spare and someday get it fixed. It stills plays very good. I am able to learn from my pc music lessons, after practicing and learning the keys better.
Everything agrees  on my Dell Demsion B1100 upgraded to VISTA SYSTEM so far..

Thanks to all who gave me advice.
Kathleen

                                                                                         Sept 27, 2008
   Dear Lawrie,

I read your email using a EDIROL Midi Device.  All my Upgraded Dell Demsion to Vista does is emulates the music, - The Concertmate 990 doesn't playback but the pc emulates  the music-. Do I have to change MIDI Device and use a Edirol midi device?-seen them.  Should I change my IO settings on Dell Demsion B1100 -Vista OS???

  Thank you, Please advise

General Discussion / Re: MIDI mystery: phantom pizzicato- mentioned EMULATING-midi cable via pc
Dear Bill                                                                             Sept 27, 2008

My Dell Demsion B1100 -Upgraded from XP to Vista emulates - the sound on pc- not the Concertmate990  should be playing.  Do I have to change the IO SETTINGS ???

When I had the XP before I upgraded to Vista It WAS working even then. I disconnected the midi cables and it started to emulate on the pc.- No music from Concertmate990  with either XP OR VISTA- PART of the Midi Mystery; Phantom pizzicato

  Sincerely yours,

KatyAnnRose55

General Discussion / Re: Windows Vista will not play sound- MIne also Concertmate990!!

I too have a problem with my Concertmate 990 Midi  playing on Vista. At first it did work on XP, called away for a family outing. I had pulled ut the Midi cables and lost the sound playing back on my Midi playing on  my Concertmate 990.

The Dell Demsion B1100 -upgraded myself the whole hardware and program to Vista.

Now I need to put the Concertmate in Default in the MIDI Player on Music player . Also a I need a decoder. Not all Music playing lessons recognize your instrument, sometimes you have to type in the name when you can. I have pc book and midi books which I am studying to understand where I am at. It is an up hill task to do  for me.

  Sincerely yours,

KatyAnnRose55

General Discussion / Re: MIDI Playback Devices?-Mine too 1/2 played back. Concertmate990
My Concertmate 990 worked well then it changed when I had XP  on it. Then I was called away on family business. Pulled the midi cable out and lost the play back. Now I have VISTA- upgraded everything myself  with DELL via the phone. And the PC EMULATES  the music on it-plays. Music Mapper ETC.  doesn't play either. My message said before and after it needs a DECODER, or you need to put your musical instrument in Default. Which I am trying to figure out how to do. I am reading in pc books and midi books how to do it. Some music programs don't recognize your instrument, either you type it in when you can or you have to fnd the settings for it. Like I am trying to figure out. Or else you need a decoder. I also need  at times to ask a music repairman for some advice.

Sincerely yours,

General Discussion / Re: will try to enable the Midi input as you said, also repairman to see
G'day Katy,
just guessing but, do you need to tell the Concertmate to expect input on the MIDI port?  I don't often use external keyboards as my MIDI synth but on the few occasions I have it was necessary to enable MIDI input on the keyboard...

 Dear Lawrie,                                                                           Sept 6th, 2008

Thank you for your reply. Before it worked smoothly the Concertmate, I plan to have my keyboard examined by a repairman within the next couple of weeks. I also thought of enabling the Midi input on my Concertmate 990 but I have to study the manul some more. It did occur to me to enable the MIDI INPUT on the keyboard. Read somewhere in one of the various midi books I have been reading in my spare time, when my sister isn't calling me to help her.

Thanks for your advice will take it into consideration

General Discussion / Midi Cable works on A Casio LK 43, BUT NOT ON CONCERTMATE 990
I almost have my Midi Crisis solved . Borrowed a Casio LK 43 ATTACHED A midi Cable to it  via my pc Dell Demsion B1100. Which I had upgraded to Vista, works well with Midi programs. But not my Concertmate 990 which does play.. But something is wrong with the MIDI SENSING AREA on it keyboard.

Do I have the usb in the wrong port- in the printer port, or plug and play port? I/O settings wrong? Sound is okay on pc. Or does this add up to getting a new electronic piano playing keyboard???

Any Suggestions???

Sincerely

General Discussion / Re: Playback is Tripping!
  Hello,                                           June 17,2008

I think that having more memory and a larger hardrive. will help me to get my Midi Turtle Beach Midi progrma to work. What I have now some of my sound when it comes to testing it with the Midi  cable is starting to fade out or is gone, disappear. I've talked to serveral pc technicians and read hear at Noteworthy that is possisble more memory and a larger harddrive could really help. My Dell Demsion B1100 has a basic small harddrive 40, and 512 memory.
So I am going to do put more in. I hope it works

Thank you

General Discussion / Re: Radio Shack CONCERTMATE 990 IN-PORT -emulates sound
Thank you,  John,  I did happened to have a regular Midi usb cable on and talked with the Dell. tec. They said it was a software problem and to talk with the Radio Shack people. Everything works but the IN-PORT light is OFF and only emulates it. The OUT-PORT LIGHT goes on.  There is sound off the keyboard and the pc can be tested and heard. My problem is almost solved. I am still looking for advice and looking at my pc-XP repair books. Keep trying.

 Thank you for your reply.

Hi, Kathleen -

I suspect that Benji is probably way past the Radio Shack keyboard, since he posted the original question back in 2001.

One thing to remember when hooking up MIDI cables is that IN on the keyboard goes to OUT on the soundcard and OUT on the keyboard goes to IN on the soundcard.

If you can't get the MIDI in to work on your soundcard, you might want to consider purchasing a USB to MIDI adapter (they're not very expensive).  It comes with two MIDI connectors on one end (IN and OUT) and a USB connector on the other end.  Then just load the software driver for it and select that as your input port in NoteWorthy Composer.  Since my new computer doesn't have a game port or MIDI connectors on the sound card, that's what I did and it works fine.

General Discussion / Re: radio shack midi keyboard- Concertmate 900
I have a Radio Shack MD-1160 Midi capaple keyboard, and I can't get it to work on NoteWorthy composer... or another sequencer/composer for that matter. Please help me! I have a cable, and it's hooked up... I can't find anything wrong... but I know something isn't right! Help!

benji

  Dear benji,

I too have a Concertmate 900 keyboard, Had everything set up right, and connected correctly,I was called away on family business, Came home and lost the whole thing. Set pc back to original settings and downloaded the TurtleBeach Midi cable drivers, tested it, now only IN-PORT DOESN'S WORK OUT- PORT DOES. Tried another Midi cable same thing. There is also a special cable Midi cable for the Concertmate got those too.  I have to start from BASE 1 AGAIN  and look for answers again myself why the IN-port doesn't work,

General Discussion / Re:Midi IN-PORT DOESN'T WORK ON my Concertmate 900 keyboard
So i know there is already a topic titled Sound Card, but after reading through all of the posts, I am still a little confused.  My computer is about a year old now and I am assuming it is just running on a standard built in sound card.  As you can probably guess, my midi sounds awful; worse than my older computer which was running on windos 95.  I am running on vista now so i was hoping that with time, perhaps standard midi would have improved. Anyways my question is will adding a new sound card increase the quality of my midi? If so are there any recommendations?  I have heard yes, no, maybe and really i don't want to invest any money into something that won't work.

Also, something i noticed with the current sound card thats built in is that it seems to not be able to handle more than 12 staves running at one time.  The music I write is usually fully notated with close to 15 staves, give or take, but when i try to play back what i have written, some of the staves don't play, while others chop the ends of notes off creating a wonderful staccato effect when i don't want it.  I am assuming that this is also because of the low quality sound card, but not sure.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advnace!

-Rob
Dear Rob, Maybe you can help me also and vice versa, My In-port doesn't work on my Concertmate 900 keyboard. I have 2- MIDI cables-TurtleBeach and a regular USB-MIDI CABLE. both work well. But on both the IN-PORT DOESN'T WORK  when I test the midi cables . Only simulates the keyboard. I have several cd-midi programs which work well, but only the IN-PORT DOESN'S WORK ON ALL THE PROGRAMS.

Maybe it is the Sound CARD, on my Dell Demsion B1100 OS XP- mine is 3-year-sold.
Could it also be the configuration of the programs or settings on my  Dell pc.?

I am a beginner-intermediate self- taught organsit, piano, keyboardist. Who is learning to play chords and notes on my Concertmate 900. Also have an Estey/Freedom II spinnet organ. Learned to ez-play, easy piano & organ songsbooks. A Lowrey Magic Course  for organ playing  reinforced my reading chords, etc..

You are more experienced in using the Midi than I am, the first time I had it working great. Then I was called away on a family matter, came back, NOW LOST the program.  I had to put my pc back to a clean start- factory settings.

I also have a special MIDI cables for the Concertmate from Radio Shack, I used once.  I have to try again.

Back to BASE ONE.

I hope  I helped you some, could you give some advice on my midi cable usage on my pcalso.

   Thank you,

Sincerely Yours,
KatyAnnRose55 Kathleen Gleeson
