It is an LCD monitor. I looked up the refresh rate settings; it was at 59 Hz and the only other option was 60 Hz. I tried 60 Hz and the problem remained the same. After googling the model to see whether others have had this buzzing, there appeared to be few with the problem but no solution was found...
Is there any way to adjust settings in NoteWorthy to possibly stop the buzzing?
I listened around my system. It is not coming from anything inside the tower. It's definitely not a fan or speaker noise, it's more of a high pitched machinery gone wrong type of noise.
Although, after listening around I found the source. My monitor has built in speakers on the back of it, and they are making the sound. I do not have any audio cables connected to my monitor, and my audio comes through separate speakers connected to an audio interface.
I have no idea why NoteWorthy Composer being open would cause the unconnected monitor speakers to act up on certain view settings. Do you know of any way to address this problem or do I just need to get a new monitor? (I got it used from someone)
Ever since I got a new computer, when I have NoteWorthy Composer zoomed out on any setting further out from the default setting, there is a high pitched buzzing coming from my computer. The buzzing happens only when the NoteWorthy Composer window is being viewed, and it is not coming from my speakers (if I unplug my speakers the buzzing still happens on those view settings). I am using the most recent version of NoteWorthy. This also occurred with older versions of NoteWorthy.
Does anyone know how to stop this buzz from happening?
I'm trying to set my music back to its original modulation wheel setting after using the modulation wheel, but cannot figure out what it is. It does not appear to be 64.
I recently bought a MIDI-USB cable, and I connected it to my keyboard and computer through the proper ports. I have activated "USB Audio Device" via the MIDI Imput Active command. I have searched the NWC user manual and my USB-MIDI cable manual and cannot seem to figure out how to make Noteworthy write down the notes played on the keyboard. The record button does nothing, and if I go to Tools>Options>Midi and move USB Audio Device into the devices used to playback, when I click OK a message pops up saying: "The following play devices failed to open properly: USB Audio Device. This problem must be corrected before proceeding."
How do I make it so NWC will display the notes I play on my keyboard?
Most of my pitch bends lately have looked something similar to this: (and it tends to offset the tempo more when I have quarter note or eighth note time resolution)
For some reason, pitch bends have been offsetting the tempo as if they were a grace note. I have never noticed this before, but all of the sudden this seems to be happening. This especially happens when the pitch bend goes longer than a beat. Does anyone know anything about this?
'Overdriven Guitar' and 'Distortion Guitar' are good patches for this. Random MPC Pitch Bends may also work.
well I already knew about the guitar thing, so I guess I'll just stick with MPC Pitch Bends. I already use those quite a lot so I guess it should work.
lol I just remembered that the reason why I was kind of upset about this. Its because I had just written 40 pages about how to make music in noteworthy, in hopes of it being some sort of tutorial type of thing.
I should probably be noted that Caleb was describing someone else's situation. Caleb was a NWC2 Tester/User at the time of starting this topic.
Yeah I was about to say that. I am using registered NWC2 just fine, I'm just a little concerned about the people I'm recommending it to.
The comments here are great. I understand how you guys are explaining that it is not freeware. Even though I now understand what the motives behind unregistered NWC allowing MIDI exports is, I guess I can say I am somewhat ok with it. I am still kind of concerned about recommending it though, but I guess there really is nothing I can do about people short on cash...
Actually my name's Caleb. Kevin is my brother. We both run that website, my brother's the main owner, but I run a lot of it too.
Well I usually give out games I create for free, but I would agree that NWC does need to make a living, its just that I used to use unregistered 1.75c for many many years, and created midis for background music in my computer games, and some of the people that I provide background music for their games wanted to use NWC as well due to the "awesome songs (as they put it)" that I created. They, like I did, were short on cash so their expected to create midis, only to find out that unregistered NWC no longer allows exporting midis. I really don't find that there is much of an evaluation process going on if you cannot export as midi anymore.
I don't mean to sound harsh or anything, its just that I am kind of taken aback by NWC no longer allowing midi exports in unregistered.
What email client do you actually use? You'll probably find it also supports news (nntp). You will need to set up a news "account" or "profile" for the Noteworthy newsgroup. This is where the account information (login details) will go.
When I go to the url with news:// before it, it goes to a Microsoft Outlook thing, but I do not use Outlook for anything. So I tried the url with http:// before it to see if I could view it in my browser, and that is where my password was not valid.
Is the only way to access the newsgroup through Outlook?
I signed up for the newsgroup and all that, with my Noteworthy CD's name and code, anfd then it showed me the instructions for Private Newsgroup Access. I followed the instructions, (using Mozilla Firefox) and whenever I type in my username and password (given to me by the private newsgroup access page) to the newsgroup server, it tells me that I do not have a correct password. I have tried this multiple times with no success.
That would depend on what's available in your MIDI synth or soundfont...
E.G. in my Yamaha S-YXG50 softsynth there is a church bell at patch 14 in bank 96, or a "Christmas Bell" at patch 98 in bank 67... There are probably others too...
Otherwise, you might find the "Chromatic Percussion" from patches 7 to 14 in the standard GM set may hold something useful for you - particularly patch 14 which is the tubular bells.
Other than that I can't really help.
Tubular Bells seems to work just fine for me. Thanks.
As far as I know, GM2 now includes what used to be GS and/or XG drum kits, and specifically:
ProgChange Name MSB LSB 000 000 Standard Kit 001 000 Standard Kit 2 004 000 Hit Kit 008 000 Room Kit 016 000 Rock (Power) Kit 024 000 Electronic Kit 025 000 Analog Kit 026 000 Dance Kit 032 000 Jazz Kit 040 000 Brush Kit 048 000 Symphony (Orchestra) Kit 056 000 Sound Effects (SFX) Kit
If your synth is not too old or if your synth is automatically in GS or XG mode you should not have any problem inserting an instrument change command with the relevant ProgChange values.
I tried the different ProgChange values and nothing changed at all. I'm pretty sure that my computer's MIDI capabilities are not very old. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I already know how to use the channel 10 drum thing, its just that I am trying to get bongos to play the low one on an A and the high one on a C, but the midi bongos are the low one on C# and the high one on C. I am wondering how to completely change the note without any reference to the original position because my intervals will obviously be different than the default.
Whenever a new noteworthy document is created, in the info section it has a place for a copyright notice. Is this implying that anything made with noteworthy is automatically copyrighted?
I've been trying to follow what those links say, and I just can't get what I want to happen to work. I'm trying to make a dotted half note increase dramatically from piano to fortississimo within 3 beats. This is what I tried: <Image Link> <Image Link>
It appears that one of the new features of NWC2 is to play the note you are adding when you add it. I personally prefer this not to happen because it somewhat interrupts my train of thought when I am composing. Is there any way to turn this off? I looked in the NoteWorthy Options and there is nothing about it there. I do not want to turn off my speakers, because then of course I can't hear the song play when its playing.
So is there a way to shut off the function of NWC2 playing the note you add when you add it?
I've seen it used and it appears pretty useful, but I just can't quite figure out how exactly it works... like changing what value does what. Can someone give me a brief explanation on how it works?
The noteworthy player that came with the cd package only works with noteworthy composer version 1.75. Is there one that works with noteworthy composer version 2?
In my jazz band, there are a lot of instances where the instruments start a whole note with forte, then quiet down to piano and then crescendo up to forte. How do you do this in noteworthy?
In a word, no. Depends on how authentic you're trying to be, of course: but the drumming patterns are wrong, and so are the intervals. Native American music uses the pentatonic scale, with microtonal inflections. Translation: the black keys of the piano (or the equivalent intervals on the white keys), with ornaments that bend away from those notes by less than half a step. Drumming patterns tend to start slow and then speed up, rather than drive straight through, and the music is unmetrical (not 3/4, 4/4, or the like, but with free accents).
That's a quick summary. I suggest going to Wikipedia and typing in "Native American music." I haven't read the article, so I can't comment on its accuracy, but the table of contents looks adequate, and there is a section of samples so you can listen to some of the real stuff.
Again, it depends on how accurate you're trying to be. If you want something that's basically a rock tune that can accompany Native American characters in a production that is otherwise rock-based, this will probably fill the bill. If you want to make it sound reasonably close to what Native American music sounded like, it won't.
Well, it is supposed to kind of have a jazz-rock-techno feel to it, and the game it is going to be in is not completely generic native americans, there are also some other characters, so I guess by your definition this song would be "something that's basically a rock tune that can accompany Native American characters in a production that is otherwise rock-based."
This is for a Book of Mormon-based game that I'm making and I want to know what you think of this song.
It has 3 main melodies: The Lamanites (the one thats supposed to sound native american-y), The Nephites (it sounds kinda like the Lamanites except a bit more epic-y), and the battle (it sounds like a really fast mix between the other two melodies.)
I've been on other websites' SMF forums, and all of them have had a link to a place where you can change your signature under the account-related settings. But that link does not seem to be on this forum, yet I've seen people having signatures, so how do I make a signature?
Just a tip - I am somewhat an amatuer jazz composer, so I always make my songs based on these notes: C, Eb, F, F#, G, and Bb.
I personally think those notes tend to make music sound cool.
Also, I find the Lead instruments most useful.
But I am not into wrighting lyric songs, because I am a game developer and mostly only write game background music, so I cannot help you in making your lyrics match your songs.
Him and I are working on composing songs for a game I'm creating, and he's in the middle of a song, and all of the sudden, when he presses play on noteworthy, it highlights the notes as if its playing, but no sound is coming out. His sound is on, he has restarted his computer twice and it didn't fix, and midi files he plays through other programs play just fine.
