New Member ........Lyrics .... do not line up ... way off ?

Hi

New member here ... guess this has been covered but not sure where to look.

Can not get my lyrics to line up ... even after using the hyphens, spacings, etc...

Any advice appreciated.

Danna

G'day Danna,
we probably need a little more information...

Assuming that you are using the lyric editor (<Ctrl-L>) and not trying to insert as text.  Each "word" will position itself under subsequent notes automatically.

Some points to note:
  • A hyphen in a word will cause the word to use additional notes.  The hyphen is NOT surrounded by spaces in the lyric editor.
  • An underscore <_> will give you a blank space under a note.
  • Notes with a tie or a slur will cause a single word/syllable to consume multiple notes.
  • Notes can have a property set to be "lyric syllable" always or never thus overriding previous points.
  • Syllables seem to usually, but not always, centre themselves under the note.

Hi Lawrie .... thanks for the reply.

Yes, using Lyric editor.

First try at this is a simple song, "The First Noel."

I'd send or post a small file of what I have, but do not see a place to do that.

The first 2 notes of the song span the word "The".

So are you saying I should put a hyphen or a space between "the" ...

like : th-e   or   th e

Thanks
Danna

G'day Danna,
in the case of "The First Noel", the first 2 notes are slurred together.  So if you highlight the first note and press <;> (a semicolon) you will slur these notes together.  This will automatically cause the word "The" to consume both notes.

Similarly, the word "first" is usually slurred across 2 notes too (if I remember correctly) so your 3rd note (the first note of "first") will need to be slurred to the next note.  Same technique as above.

Finally, "noel" will need a little more attention...  In the lyric editor, the word needs to be hyphenated thus: no-el

Then the first note for the "no" part needs to be slurred to the next note - same technique as above again.  This way, the word "noel" will consume 3 notes.

You should end up with 3 words consuming 7 notes between them.

Hope this is making sense...

"The First Noel" is one of the sample songs available with both NWC1.75b and NWC2Beta.  It might help to load it and look at the lyric editor and the note layout to learn how it is done.  The sample version includes the lyrics.

The lyrics line up slightly differently depending upon whether you select "Standard Rules" or "Start of Accidental/Note" (in the configuration tab of the lyric editor).

Hope that helps.
John

Perhaps because it is labelled "Nowell",  it is not immediately obvious in the Samples
