Add new instrument disabled

Hi.  I recently bought a midi instrument.  In the forum
#2969 the subject is: "Midi add new instrument disabled."
I have this same problem with my computer.  The reply was
perhaps your computer does not have hardware installed that
Windows recognizes as eligible for Instrument Definition
selection.
I have Windows 98.  What hardware do I need to be recognized as eligible?  Does anyone have any suggestions
as to what I can do or look for to resolve this?

Your question is very vague. Perhaps if you explain exactly what problem you are experiencing...
