When I create a staff with Percussion on it (Channel 10), i can only get 'Standard Drum Kit'. How do I get the 'Brush drumkit', 'Jazz drumkit' etc.?
When a sound card/MIDI synthesizer supports different drum kits, it usually does so via patch number changes sent on channel 10. If your synth says it supports different drum kits, then you should refer to its manual for details on how to activate them (what MIDI messages need to be sent to change kits).
In other words, select "Electric Brass (finger)" instrument for the Channel 10 staff and, with luck, you should have Jazz drumkit (NWC sends MIDI change program #33).
AFAIK, the list of drumkits and instruments for Ch 10 is this:
Standard - Acoustic Grand Piano
Room - Celesta
Power - Hammond Organ
Elec - Acoustic Guitar (nylon)
Jazz - Electric Brass (finger)
Brush - Viola
Orchestra - String Ensemble 1
SFX - Trumpet.
HTH
You mean Electric Bass right?
Yes, sorry.
:) Seems to be people who wouldn't know what an Electric Bass is. An Electric Bass is an Electric Guitar that plays sounding kinda like a tuba, actually.
Really? Here I thought an Electric Bass was a plug-in fish.
You're thinking of an electric eel. Billy Bass, the singing fish, is battery-powered.
When I tried those instrument patches, I found out that 'Acoustic Bass' must be selected to enable 'Jazz Kit'.

Yup, that's the one for me too. Here are the ones I know and work for me:
Acoustic piano (#1) = Standard kit 1
Bright piano (#2)= Standard kit 2
Celesta (#9)= Room kit
Hammond organ (#17) = Rock kit
Nylon guitar (#25) = Electro kit
Steel guitar (#26) = Analog kit
Acoustic bass (#33) = Jazz kit
Violin (#41) = Brush kit
Strings Ensemble (#49) = Classic kit
Sounds effects
(Cont 0=126, Cont 32=0)
Acoustic piano = Effects 1
Bright piano = Effects 2
I can't hear any effects.
With channels 1-9 and 11-16 it just sounds like a normal
Acoustic Grand Piano and Bright Grand Piano.
With channel 10, it just sounds like a 'Standard Drum Kit'
Also, I have a 'Dance Kit' and a 'Standard Drum Kit' on my PSR-340. What Instrument Patches do I need for them?
Matthew:
The patches only work on Channel 10.
Press F2 - then MIDI tab then set your drum staff to channel 10 then select the INSTRUMENT tab and set patch (instrument) name to the ones suggested in Reply 9 above.
When I said I can't hear any effects, I was writing about the part where Simon put
Soud effects
(cont 0=126, Cont 32 = 0)
Acoustic piano = Effects 1
Bright piano = Effects 2
Those were the effects that I meant
I understand.
What sound card do you use?
On my AWE32 you get effects by selecting any patch no. between 57 and 127 on channel 10.
These patch numbers are 1 based.
For 0 based subtract 1.
I don't need to change controller numbers.
Each effect appears at a different note position.
According to my [C:/WINDOWS/Start Menu/Settings/Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia] in the 'AUDIO' tab, I currently only have an "AC'97 soundcard".
Bummer!
