General Discussion / Re: Note entry not playing properly?
Quote
always use the piano patch for "play notes on entry."

Well, I'm not at all interested in this feature, but the most intuitive thing to me seems to use the patch in use in that point of the score.
It should not be too difficult and needs no "push/pop".

General Discussion / Re: Accidental Notes
Usually the reminder is needed for just a note or, at most, some notes in a bar.
In that case I usually put a hidden muted grace note with a different accidental just before the note with the reminder.
Like that:

Code: (nwc) [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.5,Single)
|Clef|Type:Treble

General Discussion / Re: disabling the color change key shorcut?
As far as I recall, the Italian keyboard layout is standard.

I'm so used to it that normally I type without looking at the keys, but this is dangerous: last week I went to Südtirol (that's still Italy) and I had a lot of problems because they use the German keyboard layout.
Not only the "strange" characters are in different positions, also the alphabetic ones are swapped.
This was quite surprising: the German keyboard layout is not "QWERTY"!
Guess how nice when I typed the passwords ("*****")...

General Discussion / Re: disabling the color change key shorcut?

I downloaded an Italian keyboard where near the enter key there is an accented "a" that is not an active shortcut in NWC.

Are you kidding me? :-)
In the italian layout the '\' key is just above the tab key and at the left of the '1' key.
As you can guess, I have your very same problems!

Note that the "Play from" has to be "insertion point" or further down in order to see this issue (from Tools, Options, Midi).

Sorry, I missed to report that detail.

General Discussion / Re: Deleting tempo
Quote
any instruction that changes tempo are all confined to one specific staff

Absolutely!
I hate to have to search all the staves to find which one contains the one I'm interested in that specific moment.
1114
General Discussion / Re: Deleting tempo
While I understand the use of a specific staff for tempo controls, I don't see the need for a dedicated channel.
You can use whatever channel you want, already used or unused.
I just suggest to uncheck "Send Patch" and "Send Bank select" for that staff to avoid interferences.

General Discussion / Re: 2.5 update fails
I think once I had that message when I did a wrong step in the update sequence.
For example trying to install the 2.3 to 2.5 updater while the installed version is already a 2.5 beta or something like that.
1118
General Discussion / Patch numbers
In the staff properties: String Ensemble 1 -> Send patch 48

In score review: String Ensemble 1 -> Patch = 49

So what? This is confusing. Let's decide: either 1-based or 0-based.
Or, since MIDI needs the number 0-based but humans start counting from 1, let's make the difference clear. ;-)

General Discussion / Save as
Score title: "Sonata n.1"

"Save as" proposed names: "Sonata n.nwc" or "Sonata n.nwctxt" :-)

melismata,
the topic was not NWC->PDF but the other way round (passing through MXML).

General Discussion / Re: Pitch bending (increase value range)
Quote
IMO, you should not create the impression that the experiments can currently be conducted with NWC.

Yup!
But I HAD the impression that I made the experiments with NWC!
Now that I look at it, it seems impossible.
Sorry.

Quote
Long ago I asked for better MPC controls

Me too.

And I'll find useful even some GM/GM2 SysEx, at least "GM/GM2 system on".
1123
General Discussion / Re: Pitch bending (increase value range)
You said it.
To set the pitch bend range you must use the RPN 101 (coarse) and/or 100 (fine).

The coarse adjustment (usually set via Data Entry 6) sets the range in semitones.
The fine adjustment (usually set via Data Entry 38) set the range in cents.

For example, to adjust the pitch wheel range to go up/down 2 semitones and 4 cents:

B0 65 00  Controller/chan 0, RPN coarse (101), Pitch Bend Range
B0 64 00  Controller/chan 0, RPN fine (100), Pitch Bend Range
B0 06 02  Controller/chan 0, Data Entry coarse, +/- 2 semitones
B0 26 04  Controller/chan 0, Data Entry fine, +/- 4 cents

I made some experiments long ago but, having extended the range a lot, the resolution of my pitch bend control was too "grainy".

(Edit: Oops! I just opened the link you provided and I discovered that the document is exactly the same I have.)

General Discussion / Re: I've had it!
'voltest.nwc' works on this Audigy 2 setup.  It did not work on two previous setups (Crystal Audio and Audigy 1).
Across a choral ensemble, we can't presume what's available to each person.

Of course, but you simply can not blame NWC for that.
As in the "good" old days when someone had a color display and someother not.

For the rest, I wholly concurr with Bill.
1127
General Discussion / Thinking aloud
Yesterday I turned on the old faithful, that is my old 486, and run win 3.11 and NWC.
How far we went from that version of NWC!
Now that I'm used to the new features I felt lost.
How many tricks are now obsolete!

General Discussion / Re: Notes on 2.5
Quote
You can find spacers using the expression:
|Spacer|*

Yes, I know.
That's why I wrote "Not a big problem".
But, as I wrote, why not?

I found myself using that query relatively frequently.
1132
General Discussion / Notes on 2.5
In the 2.5 help (F1) there is no mention of "hide cancellations" in the "key signatures" tab.

The "find by category" doesn't include "spacer".
Not a big problem but... why not?

General Discussion / Re: Invalid instrument tree
Right, but if it's relative then it's relative to whatever directory is the "current" directory for that drive.
A very dangerous statement if not included in a script that beforehand sets that directory.

Anyway the core is the same: wrong path.
1135
General Discussion / Re: Invalid instrument tree
Quote
There cannot be a space after the colon.

Well, since in this case the path is much better if it's absolute, then the path is missing also the very first backslash:

M:\Noteworthy Composer 2.1\itrees

General Discussion / Re: Sound Font Bank Manager and Windows 7
Quote
They're more complicated to use but support soundfonts correctly.

Well, almost...

I didn't replied to Tony because I don't use win7. You know: sometimes I still use win2000! :-)

But KX drivers give me problems with big soundfonts.
I never investigated too much so far.

Then there is the problem of... I don't remember how the MIDI specs call it, it's the fact that you need to stop the hi-hat, triangle and perhaps another percussion when you use a different mode of the same instrument, e.g. open-closed hi-hat, open-muted triangle...
I already wrote that here somewhere.

Then there is the problem that the effects (reverb, chorus etc.) MUST be controlled from a specific device. You can not put a MPC in the staff you want affected.

And, to finish, I'm unable to download or put up any of the various skins that I hoped were more clear than the default one.

I'm considering switching to a fully SW solution to solve all that for the KX project seems almost dead.
Were the project open source!

Typical problem from cut & paste: <title>Modify Tempos</title>
It should have been "Octave Up".

General Discussion / Re: Pardypack Font suite errors - *TextEuro fonts
Wow, Lawrie.
You're saying that you are so luck you don't have to change any of the actual character mapping?
Incredible! Murphy must have been sleeping. ;-)

I remember having wondered sometimes why you didn't include that symbol...
The problem is that now I don't remember which symbol!

General Discussion / Re: Sibelius, alas!
Quote
Without the ability to read MIDI, NWC could not be able to use a MIDI keyboard for input

Nope.
SMF (standard MIDI file) is a thing, real time MIDI signals is another.
Many first (and second!) generation keyboard could generate MIDI events and receive MIDI command but could not read MIDI files.
Try sending verbatim byte by byte a MIDI file to a keyboard...

General Discussion / Re: Accidental clash

The Dnats that recieve a tie are courtesy accidentals. I would simply put them in as text.
Very good observation!
Thank you.

General Discussion / Accidental clash
I'm not able to find a (relatively) simple solution for this problem with accidentals.

Does exist a trick I overlooked or should I use the enharmonics?

General Discussion / Re: Extra fonts in the NWC installation pack?
Quote
is it justifiable for a professional company such as NoteWorthy Software to liberally force install a number of fonts on their users' systems on the basis that sometime in the future, the user may possibly download a file from the internet that may possibly use a non proprietary font. Would that be professional etiquette?

I don't clearly understand what do you mean with "non proprietary font".

I encountered various "famous" softwares that install a lot of fonts that a day, maybe, perhaps, the user can decide to use.

I also found "famous" sofwares that install EVERYTHING in the package even if you just need one or two of the applications... and they leave you no way to select nor remove anything.
Would that be professional etiquette?
At most, I think the font "incorrectness" you quote is venial.

Quote
it is more likely that an additional font used in files on the Scriptorium will be Boxmarks.

Yes. That's why I suggested an implicit "font substitution table". (And so a couple of fonts is no more needed)

Quote
some form of batch routine I could use that would identify all user fonts used. ... should be possible via nwctxt

Sure.
