Hello all - haven't posted in a while!!
Bascially, I am using NWC for my music composition, and there is a bit in there which requires a timp roll and another bit which requires a tom tom roll. What would be the best way to scores this? I COULD put in 64 64th notes, but that would look stupid when it is printed out.
Any ideas?
Tom
G'day Tom,
basically you need 2 staves, one hidden and one visible - the visible one is muted and the hidden one makes the noise.
On the hidden, sounding staff you write out everything in its entirety - use the 64th etc. - you might even find tripletizing them will work better still...
On the sounding staff you write crotchets (8ths) and put (3) slashes across the stem using a text font.
The easiest ones would be "Boxmark2" or if you like the look of them then one of the name fonts from the suites I've made available. All can be downloaded through the Scripto:

Because the visible staff is muted you can also put the notes in the right places too, you aren't constrained by MIDI's "incorrect" placement of each drum/cymbal sound. If you use NWC2 you can also use "x" noteheads for the cymbals without resorting to some of the trickery and post processing required for NWC1.
Cool. Thanks lawrie.
Unfortunately, I can't get NWC2 beta, as I have NWC on a floppy! not a CD.
How do I make X headed notes on NWC 1.75c? Is it possible?
I can't seem to get my /'s to sit on the note stem itself. Could you help me please =]
Thanks
A pleasure
It's only 15 bucks US to get the update to 1.75 on CD and then you're eligible - 15 bucks very well spent IMHO.
I've never done it but there is a font and instructions on the Scripto...
This is the Scripto page: http://nwc-scriptorium.org/helpful.html#NWCFiles
This is the link to the actual download: http://nwc-scriptorium.org/ftp/helpful/xfonts.zip
There is a fair bit of effort involved going on the instructions...
The '/'s may need to be padded with a space or two - set them as left justified/at next note/bar for downward stems and right justified/at next note/bar for upward stems. You may need to adjust to taste - also juggle with the font size too.
Do download and install Boxmark2 or one of my fonts for this, there are specific characters with the right slant for the task at the 'o' and 'p' character locations.
