Title: Adding reverb to playback
Post by: Dave Dunseath on 1997-09-12 04:00 am
Is there a way to add a reverb effect to the playback of a composition to simulate 'performance space' and create less of a 'flat' sound?

There are a few ways to add reverb, depending mainly on your card.

Many midi keyboards (if that's what you're playing back onto) and the AWE cards (and cards of that ilk) have digital effects that can be turned on and off for playback. These almost always include reverb. So you can try that.

If you don't have such capabilities on your midi instrument, and have only two or three staves, try this (messy) idea.

For each staff:

1) Copy it to a new staff.

2) Pick the smallest note, a 64th. And insert a rest at the start of that staff. This will delay every note by that length (which will vary according to tempo, I'm afraid).

3) Turn the volume of that staff down to the right sort of level according to taste. You may even want to pan the original staff off centre, and put the "echo" track a little to the other side, for a more spatial sound.

If anyone (Adam B?) has any better ideas, please present them!

Hope this is useful.
