Having, due to various problems with my email set up, been away from it for some considerable time, I have been unable to find the Noteworthy Newsgroup lately. Is it still going or has its place been taken by this forum? If that is so, can we upload samples of our work here for criticism by other members?
I used to be quite active on it, but not for a number of years. I have to enter a password to access any newsgroup and an extra one to access the nwc group is too much. In the early days, newsgroups were what the internet was all about--now people go to websites with forums or social media, myself included.
I wish the Newsgroup could just become another major category on this Forum.
I don't. It has its own flavor. I believe it also has its own infrastructure. This allows users who have access problems in one to get them confirmed and resolved in the other.
I agree with Rick.
John, you can use http://news.noteworthysoftware.com (http://news.noteworthysoftware.com), even if it's not the best way.
The newsgroup is still open, but seems less active than in the recent several years.
John, it's good to see you online again ... I was worried and wondering.
Joe
I just got my username and password by validating my instillation disk, but reading or writing attachments is a new problem.
How can uuencode or uudecode be done on a Windows PC (not Unix)?
TIA
Hi Warren,
I replied in the newsgroup to your post - this is what I said :
Hi Warren,
for an old fogey, who hasn't visited the Noteworthy Newsgroup for years,
please spell out in detail, which disk you used and
how you validated your installation disk
to get your user name and password
The latest disk which I have, is V2.5, and I'm using NWC V2.51
(I started using NWC when it still was distributed on stiffy,
and my NWC 1.75b disk does show an Authenticity ID)
Thanks.
I started going here (https://www.noteworthysoftware.com/order/authorize.php). My installation disk was for 1.75a which had a two part Authenticity ID. Instead of clicking on
Next, choose
Use this form instead in the note near the bottom. You will get to a page with a place for your name and two textboxes for your AID.

Is there a way to tell how it was encoded? I found a way to convert something while in command mode, but NWC said the file was corrupted when I tried to open it.
If I go to that post and do an index on it (that's what I have to do to get details in my newsreader) it tells me that it is uuencoded.
Yes, it is uuencoded.
Warren,
It might also be worth searching for an option on attachments. I have an option in my newsreader "View" menu which says "Display as Raw message".
If I select this, the attachment looks exactly as you have posted here - If I take the tick off, then it just looks like a Noteworthy icon with the file name that I can click on, which then loads into Noteworthy.
Warren,
thanks for the info -
I validated my NWC 1.75b disk - but that was it - I only got a report back in connection with my order of 2004.
Validating my NWC 2.5 disk - DITTO for my 2012 order.
I've requested help from NWC Support.
It is corrupted because spaces were trimmed from the right side of two of the lines. It is correct in my original message. Uuencode unfortunately includes the space character in the list of characters it uses to encode. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uuencoding for more details.
Thanks. I found a way to add two extra spaces plus a non space character to the end of all lines except first and last. No problem with redoing my last two downloads plus a new one a few minutes ago.
You are welcome.
Or you could use the attached User Tool ...
Edit: the original attachment has been replaced with version 1.1
I've tried Flurmy's method of getting on to the Newsgroup 2 or 3 times but my user name/password combination is always rejected. Unlike at most web sites that I visit, there appears to be no way of retrieving a forgotten password. Other suggested methods look to difficult for me. Maybe someone on this forum who is still on the Newsgroup could let the other members know that I greatly miss their company.
Cheers,
John.
The news server is not looking for
your name/password. It wants the info provided in
Bonus Features from the NoteWorthy Composer - Downloads (https://noteworthycomposer.com/composer/download.htm) page.
