At my own pace....

How do I use my MIDI keyboard to select the pitch for notes I want to enter at my own pace, not live
- step time?

1.Tools: Options, Record tab
2.If not set, select the Input Device Driver for your system
3.MIDI tab - set MIDI Port Usage to While Active or Always
4.Tools: MIDI Input Active

I followed the above directions but #4 'MIDI input Activie" is always gray.

Any suggestions????????

Thanks,
Larry

Here are the reasons why this would be gray:

- You do not have an editor window open
- A song is currently playing back in NWC

If you have a song playing, stop it. If you do not have an editor window open, then note entry would have no place to go.

If you enter notes "at your own pace", then you'll have notes with unsignificant lengths. You could then easily put them all at the same length by selecting the whole staff (home, Shift+End) and typing the numpad key matching the most used length --let's say quarter: type in '3'.
If you want to remove all bar lines, go to the beginning of the staff, and type in:
Ctrl-Right, BackSpace
Ctrl-Right, BackSpace
...until you get to the end. This will do.
Now you can go back to the beginning, and start to set note lengths to their correct values.

But instead of all this, I'd personally create a slooow staff to playback along, and then record at a slow -but steady- pace.

Hope this helps,
