Title: Sound Card
Post by: Al simpson on 1998-12-18 05:00 am
when using noteworhty or music writer all of the instruments sound very similar. Does anyone have any recommendation for a sound card that will produce a guitiar sound that actually sounds like one.

If you're using an SB16 or similar card, just about anything would be an improvement. I'm happy with my Yamaha-based MPU401 card, but there's lots of good cards available.

Another option if you have Pentium and Win95 (_not_ Win98) then you can use Yamaha's SoftSynth to get true wave-table sound on a stock SB16. You can download a trial version from their website; if you like it, registration is under $25 US.

You'll need to check your hardware, but there are several daughterboards available, too, which can be added to many soundcards (well, SB16s, anyway), which give wavetable sounds, but are cheaper than a full-blown wavetable board.
