General Discussion / Re: shared Beamed notes
So, should I write each part on its own staff and then layer?

Methods vary but one easier way perhaps is to write out the staff without the bi directional beams, copy the staff and at the point where you have the bi directional beams, on the copy set up the beams on the other direction and then layer the staff.

There are other issues such as muting the duplicate notes etc but that would be a start.

As I said before, if you download the command summary, there are examples.

But you need to get NoteWorthy working again first.

General Discussion / Re: Contacting Support
If you have the old computer or have a backup of the C drive, in the area where the program was installed (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Noteworthy Software\ ) you will find a folder called setups.  In that folder you will find a setup program for nwc275.

Copy this program and use it to install on your new machine. If you also need to install the viewer, you can download and install this from the NoteWorthy web site.

Object Plugins / Re: PageTxtMaestro.nw
This is caused because you have set a boundary (start a collapsible section) at bar at the beginning, after the page control instructions.  So when the next page comes, the page instruction only applies to the top staff which is no longer there.

If you copy the 4 page control instructions to the second staff right at the beginning, the copied ones will only work when the second staff is the top staff. When you revert to three staffs at bar 73, the original instructions on the very top staff activate again and the ones on the second staff will be inactive.

General Discussion / Re: Changing the key signature
Hi Frank,

I really have no other suggestions apart from lowering the pitch by say 2 or 3 semitones and then see if it suits all voices.

Remember, that if you lower the tone by 3 semitones and that is too low for a bass, you can always raise the bass line by an octave, (12 semitones).

Maybe some others may have a better idea ?

Rich.

General Discussion / Re: Changing the key signature
Well re-reading your request, I should have said -6 since you wanted the pitch lowered.

-6 would have bought the staff to 3 sharps but a lower pitch than your current 3 flats.
Since there are 12 semitones in an octave, 6 up would go higher whilst 6 down would go lower.
So if you have already made that change, doing another transpose of -12 will keep the key the same but lower the staff by an octave.

The relationship between one key and another can be said to be the number of semitones difference. (There is something called the circle of fifths - but not going into that deeply)

Consider the attached diagram (not mine - just Googled it for this answer !) . Each division is a semitone so you can count how many semitones you need to raise of lower the current key to get to the key you want.  In NoteWorthy, it is better to force accidentals before transposing.  Also, do not try to manually change the key signature since NoteWorthy will do it for you when you transpose.

In the transpose screen, there is also a tick box called "update staff play  back transposition". For a simple transposition, this box should not be set - It is mainly to do with transposing instruments  - not getting into that here!

So looking at the diagram, you can see that if you wanted to go from a key with 2 sharps in it to a key with 2 flats, the number of sections between those to keys is 8 going clockwise and 4 going anti-clockwise.

So in the NoteWorthy transpose screen, entering 8 semitones will raise the pitch to two flats (Key of Bb) whilst entering -4 will lower the pitch to the Bb key below the original 2 sharps (D key).

Hope this helps
68
General Discussion / Re: Changing the key signature
First of all, put your cursor on the staff and select tools / Force accidentals.
Then (with the key signature still at 3 flat, select tools / transpose staff, .

In the semitones box, select 6 (+6 that is) . Make sure the Update staff box does not have a tick in it.

Click on OK

General Discussion / Re: staves with different time signatures
Rich:
I asked you this in my reply #2, but you may not have seen it:
I'm not sure how you have a 9/8 time signature governing the 3/4 tripletized measures. I had the measures governed by a hidden 3/4 after a visible 9/8.
Sorry,  I thought that was just saying that I had missed a bit of the solution.  Strictly, your hidden 3/4 is more correct. My version works simply because everything adds up in each of the staves for the section of music that is being transcribed.  Even an audit bar lines passes the test.  (NoteWorthy quirks ?). However, should there have been, say, a blank bar in the middle of the 9/8 sections, then the bar lines would not have added up, and in that case, additional rests would have been added to force the 9/8 bars to their proper length.  Since we do not know what happens in all of the music that Lorenzo is transcribing, it would be far safer to include hidden 3/4 time signatures such as you have done.

Rich,
73
General Discussion / Re: staves with different time signatures
Hi Lorenzo,

In my opinion, yes, there is a more elegant solution.

Your 9/8 measures can be considered the same as 3/4 with triplets - Likewise the 6/8 can be considered a 2/4 with triplets.

So to achieve this, in the 9/8 measures, tripletise the notes . Likewise in the 6/8 measures.

You can then use the marker function (@) to hide the triplets.

If you are prepared to copy the nwctxt to a text editor, you can completely move the triplet marks to position 2000 or -2000 where they can't even be seen as grey in the editor (many people do not like this bit)

In the attached sample file, the first two measures are just with the @ marker making the triplet invisible (grey)  . In the final two measures, I have moved the triplet markings completely out of view. so that they cannot be seen in the editor.

Hope this helps.

General Discussion / Re: Removing text from an .nwv file
Load the nwc file into NoteWorthy composer.
Click on the line that has the lyrics in.
Press Ctrl and L
This will open up the lyrics for that line.
You can then select all of the lyrics (so that they turn blue)   CTRL and A will do this.
Then press delete.

You will then need to put in the German lyrics if that is what you want to to , remembering to follow the rules for NoteWorthy Composer lyrics.  (ie one syllable per note or tied note with a "-" between syllables within the same word. etc.)

General Discussion / Re: internal and external slur
I'm not sure if I am understanding you properly but you can move a noteworthy slur from above the joining bar to above the noteheads by using the marker (key @) and selecting slur. You can then position both ends of the slur (needs two markers one before each end of the slur) to the vertical position that you want the ends of the slurs to be placed.

General Discussion / Music stuttering problem with VST (Coolsoft) running on Windows 10 /11- Solved!
For those of you who use Coolsoft VST (or maybe other VST systems) as the sound system for NWC running under Windows 10 or 11 and have experienced a very annoying stutter of the music, where the notes play late or perhaps are shortened to catch up with where the music ought to be, then perhaps this is the solution for you.

The problem is caused by Microsoft Edge  (even if you don't use Microsoft edge or have not got it running at the same time as NoteWorthy).

Microsoft Edge is automatically installed in within Windows 10 and 11. Unfortunately, when it is installed, the default settings have an option which subsequently affects the VST. This is :

"Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed"

Even if you have turned this off, if there has been a windows update, it may have been turned on again.

This option leaves Edge running even if you are not using Edge and can really mess up your sound reproduction through VST.

What this option does is to monitor things such as Facebook and other websites for updates so that it can notify you. It leaves a whole host of processes running in your pc.

So to turn it off, start up Edge, and click the ellipsis (three dots) on the top right of the screen and select settings.
Then select "System and Performance"

In the window labelled System you will see "Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed". Turn this off.
Consider turning off Start up boost as well.

Exit Edge.

Remember to re-check this setting after Windows updates since it may have been switched on again if there has been an update to Edge.

The picture is of the Edge processes when the setting is switched on but Edge is not running.
