Lawrie; I think it might be the Yamaha synth that is doing it. I used to have a midi synth slider when all I had was the standard midi mapper and the Wave Tabel. Since I instaled the Yamaha synth, (thank God for this forum that had the workable xp link), I know have the SW synth. My 2¢ worth, not that it is worth that much. <lo>
I add another vote to not changing the mapping on 7,8, and 9. After 4+ years my fingers are trained to go to those keys for accidentals without even thinking.
openoffice.org also has a vector graphics program that will export to tiff format. I now it will open the emf file that nwc2 creates. I don't have nwc one installed on my system anymore so I cannot test whether it will read the output from there. Perhaps someone who has both can try it. Or if you would like you csn email me a graphic output at meriodoc_brandybuck@yahoo.com and I will try it.
Having been on the support side of complex software most of my professional life I can understand not using the standard windows font selection mechanism. For those of use familliar with the software and the difference between fonts used for text and those used for notes et al it would not matter much which way it goes. For a beginner it may well not be so straight forward. In that case I can see the number of support calls going up. Not all attempts to keep novice users on the straight and narrow are misguided. In my experience most programers do not enjoy re-inventing the wheel and most instences of it I have seen are either at the customers request or an attempt to save themselves from a myriad of support calls because the accepted norm for doing something in the operating system environment they were dealing in would be prone mistakes by novice users of the software.
I di use it quite a bit and it is a definate help. Between the bifocals and the HiVis font these tired old far sighted eyes are not as tired. Haven't tried printing with it since I don't have a need at the moment to print the music.
Not so lazy as you might think Rich. I was about to reply with a number of the same errors. I saw that both you and David had replied already and knew that both of you would have explained it far better than I could. So figured I would spare my brain the unacstomed strain. <lol>
as archive said, I believe the only way to get that swing feel is to use a hidden staff. The visible staff would need to be muted. The hidden staff would be Identical to the original except wherever you had the tied eigth notes you would use an eigth and a quater note tripiitized
There are, but they require the use of a printer emulator. A number of people use a free one. I will search the other forums and see if I can find a link for you. I don't use it because I have a pdf generator because of other software that I have installed.
Thank you David. Yes at 50 years mears it is a habit, but due to medical problems i can no longer sing or play. I am a reed player and have lung problems, so that is no longer an option and my lack of knowledge of theory and structure doiing what I want to be able to do is out of the question. Since this is supposed to be a means of calming the fact that it frustrates and aggrivates me more and reminds me of my loss is not good. As I said I may well lurk every now and then just to see how things are going. Thank you for all of your support and willingness to share your knowledge.
Your wit and knowledge have always enlivened your posts and have taught me a great deal. Unfortunetly my personality is such that when I know something should be better I can't just enjoy what I have accomplished. Had hoped I would be able to indulge my love traditional music by arrainging some of my favorites, and to be able to finally get a few compositions down that have been in my head for years. Neither has been able to come to fruition due to my perfectionist nature and pure lack of knowledge and skill in those areas. So rather than frustrate myself more it is time to break the 50 year bond. Yes that was fifty years, been performing vocally since I was 4 or 5 and instrumentally since I was 6 and am now 55. may continue to lurk now and again just to see what is happening with what is truely a wonderful product, and a great community.
To all the regular posters here, thank you very much for all you have taught me, not only about this wonderful product, but about music in general. Since it has become obvious to me that I will never be able to accomplish what I want to be able to with my very limited knowledge of music theory, it is time to stop beating my head against the wall and make room on the hard drive for something that I can move forward with. again, thank you all for your help over the years.
Rich, worked like a charm. I have run across this a lot in Sacred Music. And have always used the layered staff work around. Is nice to understand what is actually going on and be able to do it right without a lot of extra work.
Thank you all for your contributions. I have used the layering work around any number of times I have come across thisw problem. Rich thank you very much for the the tutorial on how to actually figure it out. Will give it a try and report back on how it works. David and Rick G, thank you also for your prompt and very useful information and work arounds.
This one has always aggrivated me eer since I started using NWC.Sometimes it appears to count the beats in both the up and down stem directions for measures wiith chords and sometimes it doesn't appear to. When it doesn't we have mismatched measures and possibly out of synch music and or lyris. Was hoping one of our virtuosos could explain the logic to me. A measure of star dust is appended to show what I mean.
That makes perfect sense. Unfortunetly I am currently restrictedb to using my laptob so donot have the keypad to easly acess the extended charecter set. Tried using the windows harecter map to copy to clip board and then paste into the expression box, but was hit an miss as to weither it would work. Thanks for the quick response.
Hi Lawrie; Was using your MusikDingsSans group and noticed a possible problem with the Chord Varient. Went to use the flat symbol in parenthasis as a courtsy flat. It appears that the symbol is displaying one position below. I set the cursor at the B position on a treble cleff staff, and the flat symbol displays at the A space. Hope this explanation makes sense. Believe I have an e-mail address in my profile here. Will double check and make sure. Feel free to use it if you need further info.
You are still to be commended. I have worked on projects of near that complexity, professionally and for fun, and know all to well how easy it is for discrepencies slip through. Thank you for all the work you did both on those and in anwsering questions with both knowledge and wit
I agree that getting it fixed now is the way to go. I have used swingdings but have not needed any of the problems you mentioned. Haven't tried the others yet. If those are the only problems that slipped through on a project of that size you don't need to apologize, I want to know how you did it!!!!!
Just downloaded and tried Lawrie's swingdings fonts from the scripto and they are great. They give the look and feel of handwritten scores or a good fake book. Thank You for all the hard work.
You are correct that the Microsoft wavetable is available on windows 98SE and if memory serves me correctly also on the original 98. I agree with your opinion on the Yamaha soft synth. I had it on an HP machine I had at one time and I loved it. Was actually the best thing about that system.
