Rolls

I'm trying to put in my marching band music for this year, but I don't know how to make a roll. Can anyone help/

Some midi boxes actually have a roll somewhere in their percussion patches, but it's not standard General Midi.
If you are writing the percussion part, you'll have a little trouble making it legible for the percussionists, as NWC doesn't support standard percussion clefs (yet?).
You could probably right a muted staff, and then implement what you wrote on another staff.

If you just want rolls to sound right, try 32nd notes or even 64ths (depending on your tempo). Sometimes having a second track playing slightly out of time helps.

Okay, after months of trying to figure it out, I think I have a
solution to your problem!!!! What I do, is write it out regularly
and just where the roll goes, use a regular note. Then make
a hidden staff where you notate out a roll in 32nd notes, if you
want a nice open roll, or 64+notes if you want a buzz roll. Then
Hide that staff. As for looks on notation, just find what
ever note starts the roll on the normal staff, and put an =
with a non-preserved width text. It looks good enough for us
dumb drummers to figure out what it is. It takes a little
tinkering but it works.
